  1. Before I lay down $700.00 for Premiere I have one question ..................
.........will it do standards conversion from Pal to NTSC. I don't want to fool with script based software like Avisynth.

Not to my knowledge in Premiere 6.5. I actually spent hours trying to convert my PAL footage to produce an NTSC DVD.

I managed to do it, although I am not fully satisfied with the end result quality.

No need for Avisynth though. I tried Avisynth but it did not give better results. Probably actually worse than using the Premiere functions.

I don't know about Premiere Pro. Maybe someone else can tell us. I am also about to shed $400 for the Adobe DIgital Video Collection.

BJ_M, you are raising my expectations . Is there a site or a guide explaining how to do this conversion with After Effects somewhere? Can you do it with the SE version or do you need the PE?

    Thanks

    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/c5fa.htm (good info!)

guides found on google also (some i found didnt make a lot of sense) -

vegas uses super sampling (very powerfull feature to create New frames via interpolation), you find this on pro software like fusion and time master and shake ..

ae uses the tried and true method of field seperation - but following thier advice gives pretty good results ... same method was done for years in million $ hardware ..
