  1. I would like to clearly understand the process of ripping one VOB from a DVD, and converting it to AVI so as to be able to edit it in Premiere v6.

    I have already spent a substantial amount of time on this but I suppose I am still missing something.

    I am using DVD Decrypter to rip the VOB from the DVD to my hard drive.
    In DVD Decrypter I am using all default settings. No problems so far.

    I use Virtualdub-MPEG2 and this guide:
    https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm

    In this guide, it specifically states to use Video->Fast recompress and explains why to not use full processing, so I use Fast recompress.

    I select Audio->Full processing.

    I select Video->Compression.
    For Video Compression, I have been selecting Huffyuv. I have selected other codecs but have received the same failure.

    I select Audio->Compression
    For Audio Compression, I have been selecting MPEG Layer 3. I have selected other codecs but have received the same failure.

    I select File->Save AVI and the process runs to completion. I now have a AVI that I can watch using MS Media Player.

    The problem is when I try to use the AVI in Premiere v6. I can import the AVI and even see a few frames in the preview window, but after just a few mouse clicks, Premiere crashes.

    What am I doing wrong? Is there a guide that list the process of converting a DVD VOB to a AVI that is compatible with Premiere v6?

    I would really appreciate some help with this or perhaps even a reference to where I could find some help.

    Thanks

    You can try this, Download Canapus DV-encoder here:
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=192#comments

    Then load the vob into Vdub, choose the canapus DV-Codec for the output AVI. Premiere should work with this easily.

    Good luck.
