I seem to be making a lot of coasters when I burn a DVD.
Is this common? Is it my memorex disc? disk copy, mac superdrive or just me not knowing what I'm doing?

wow, well i just spent almost 3 days until i helped a guy with this problem, so i need LOTS of information.
costers come from
1. improper ripping
2. improper "shrinking"
3. improper burning
4. improper media
5. player incompatibility with the media
please try to be as specific as you can in describing what you did at each of these steps. -
Galactica,
I burn't a .dmg of a sizzle movie to memorex DVD-R . When the disk popped out the screen showed an error. (sorry I forget what the error was said )
Anyway, I tried it again with a DVD-RW and it worked perfect with no error messages.
I'm beginning to think it's the media. I was just curious if others have this same issue.Crayfish -
in that sense, most likely media. just keep in mind that an error at any of the points i told you can cause "coasters"

On the plus side, I've found that DVD-R's make better coasters than CD-R's. Dripping and condensation from the iced tea I brew to fuel me through the day will begin to eat through the reflective layer of a CD-R within a couple weeks, but I'm currently using a DVD-R that's showing no signs of wear at all after 3 weeks.

Not sure if it was Memorex or Maxell, but I heard of lots of problem with 'em.
I would try different media next time. I've had the best experience with Ritek DVD-R media, which seems to be most compatible with all players and burners, and are available for very competitive prices online (around $0.8x for 1x media in 100 packs, or $1.2x for 4x media in 100 packs). Sometimes, when I got a 100 pack, and they packaged 'em all in a single cake box, I was getting more and more errors as I approached the bottom of the spindle. I think the weight from the ones above them and shaking during shipping scratched the bottom ones with the disc logos and spaces to write due to the slightly raised text and lines on them. It's better if they divide them in 50 or 25 packs, or if there is no logo or writing on their surfaces. I would definitely say it's a media problem if your -RW discs have no problems.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
