  1. Hi,

    I am using DVD WS to create motion menu and chapters. And it works great but i have one problem and can't figure out how to fix that.
    I created about 20 chapters from my whole 3 hrs long moive. Here is the problem.... When i click any one of the chapter to watch, it will return to main menu when that chapter end??? I remember when i watch rental DVD from Blockbuster it will play to the movie end if you jump into any chapter. What i want to have is jump into any chapter and watch the whole movie at the end instead of return to main menu from each chapter. Can someone tell me how to fix that instead of return to main menu in each chapter???

  2. How are you making the chapters. Another poster recently made the mistake of thinking each chapter had to be a seperate file loaded into the authoring program. This is not the case. Load in your movie as one large file and use the authoring softwares features (DVD WS in your case) to mark the chapter points in the movie. This should then play the slected chapter and continue as desired.
    Are you making that same mistak?

  3. Hi,

    Let me tell you how i did it from begining and see what did i do wrong.

    I captured my wedding dvd moive disc from VOB to MPEG 2 files. It created 5 MPEG 2 files. Then, I imported to DVD WS. At that point, I cut and remove scenes that i don't want it. It end up created about 25 titles in DVD WS, i created 20 motion chapters from these 25 titles. What did i do wrong during this process? Because now i can't play the whole movie to the end. It will just return to main menu from every chapters and that's is no good at all. But how can i make this my whole movie to single file and do mark in and mark out only if i need to cut and trim different scenes?

    Thanks.

  4. Hi,

    I guess i have the same problem like your descrbied. But how do i capture my Wedding dvd disc to one single file? And also if like what you said, which mean i need to use some other program to cut and trim thoses unwanted scences first then make it as a 1 MEPG 2 file before i import to DVD WS??.
    In order for anyone to make chapters & menus from DVD WS and play the selected chapter and continued as desired. I have to make 1 single MEPG 2 file for mark in and out???

    Thanks.

  5. Usually, it's best to use a video *editor* to do editing.

    I use Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7 described on the Web page at the following link:

    http://www.ulead.com/msp/runme.htm

    PLEASE NOTE: To overcome potential loss of video/audio synchronization that might result when you record *edited* MPEG-2 source files to DVD or CD discs, you should add an entry to the configuration file of Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.01 prior to beginning your editing project. On my Windows XP computer:

    1. I clicked START;

    2. I clicked MY COMPUTER;

    3. I clicked C: drive;

    4. I clicked the DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS folder;

    5. In the WINDOWS TOOLS menu, I clicked FOLDER OPTIONS;

    6. I clicked the VIEW tab;

    7. I ticked the option to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS;

    8. I clicked OK;

    9. I clicked the ALL USERS folder;

    10. I clicked the APPLICATION DATA folder;

    11. I clicked the ULEAD SYSTEMS folder;

    12. I clicked the ULEAD MEDIASTUDIO PRO folder;

    13. I clicked the 7.0 folder;

    14. I clicked the MSP I-N-I (configuration) file;

    15. Under the [VIODRIVER] heading, I typed CloseAudioDTR=1;

    16. I saved the change.

    By adding this entry, I am able to edit the DVD camcorder MPEG files and export them to become a single DVD-ready MPEG-2 file.

    The same entry can be added to Ulead VideoStudio's configuration file in the same manner.

    In my tests, the video/audio synchronization is perfectly maintained after several small files are edited to become one single MPEG file.

    Only the audio is re-rendered in the Ulead applications.

    The video is not re-rendered - and quality is preserved.

    (Although any titles, transitions, or filters segments will be rendered.)

    To ensure the video is not re-rendered, I make certain my project settings in my Ulead video editor precisely match the properties of the video/audio source.

    For example, if my source MPEGs have the following video/audio properties...

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 704 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order B
    (DVD-NTSC), 4 : 3
    Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8800 kbps)
    Audio data rate: 256 kbps
    MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

    One can simply adjust one's project settings to match.

    No video re-rendering will occur during the process of joining several MPEGs to become one.

    Hope this helps,

  6. & that poster was me. No guides told me, Ulead help is crap.
    Personally I think Ulead should pay bugster & specialist & sack thier own support staff. Having a right moan here but Ulead direct you here for solutions. Unreal...............

  7. If you already have each chapter as *.m2v or *.mpg streams you can use TMPGenc´s mpeg tools (Datei–>mpeg tools–>merge and cut) to make one file.

  8. Thanks and that's what i am looking for!

    Does it affect video quality if i merge all of my mpg files as one file. I heard people saying that every convertion will affect original quality? Also, There are 2 MPEG 2 output format .... 1. MPEG 2 Program (VBR) 2. MPEG 2 Super Video CD (VBR) Which one i should use for better quality?

    Here's the answer that you missed.

    You can link files together in DVD author. program without any need to reencode or reengineer. Specify that end of file 1 links to beg of file 2, end of file 2 links to beginn. of file 3 etc. Your chapters are OK but you have missed to create paths/links from file to file. That's why you jump back to menu.

    Mergeing files together like this will cause no quality loss as all you are doing is joining the existing mpegs, no re-encoding involved. However, if you use VBR encoding the joining/merging often causes audio sync problems.

    In my experience this often causes slight pauses or glitches as you go from one file to the next. If there is an authoring app that doesn't have this problem, let me know and I will try it.

  11. Hi,

    In TMPGenc's mpeg tools (Datei–>mpeg tools–>merge and cut) setting.
    There are two MPEG 2 selection as below ? Which one i should use for better video quality and what is the difference between these two options?

    1. MPEG 2 Program (VBR)
    2. MPEG 2 Super Video CD (VBR)

  12. In asnwer to your original question:

    As your "chapters" apparently are individual clips, each clip will be shown as an image at the bottom of the edit page. Right click each clip- there will be a choice to return to the menu or to the next clip at the end of that clip. Select "next clip."

    That should do it.

    You need to see if your application can do "seamless" or non-seamless branches to the next chapter. If it's "seamless", it should not pause or glitch.

    Some applications assume non-seamless unless you tell them differently.

    I know I'm very late in giving advice on this subject but after readig everyone else's answers & being the newbie that I am, I find it all very confusing, HOWEVER, my answer for this issue is that I use Pinnacle 8 to capture my video from either the DV camera or VHS. Then I edit out any unwanted scenes & make up my chapter selections. I render each one seperatly & label them.
    Then I use EASY CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum to burn my movie onto DVD. It allows me to drag over the chapters & put them in the order I want them to show. I can select the entire movie from the main menu which will play without any glitches or jumping when it transitions from chapter to chapter. I can also select any chapter & it will pick up the movie from that point & finish the rest of the movie. The chapters are in motion as is the main menu depending on the backgrond I choose. I hope I have helped.
