I am trying to capture (transfer) video from my DV camcorder via
firewire port. I used to capture as Type 2 with DVIO earlier.
I am going thru the MediaStudio Pro manual and it says to capture as
type 1Which type is right for DV video. And how can I find out
whether my IEEE-1394 card is OHCI compliant or not?
Following is from MediaStudio Pro manual:
Microsoft defines two methods of storing DV video data in AVI files, type 1
and type 2. Accordingly, Video Editor fully supports both DirectShow and
VFW codec for DV type 1 and type 2 format. For OHCI compliant IEEE-
1394 capture cards, select the DV Video Encoder type 1 codec in the
Compression tab in the Video Save Options dialog box.

If Windows can see you DVcam when you plug it in to the IEEE 1394 port, it is OHCI compliant. If you have successfully captured with DVIO then it must be. If it wasn't it wouldn't work.
I use Mediastudio Pro all the time and just leave the defaults. I think it saves in Type 1 but couldn't say for sure. All I know is that it just works, never drops frames and never has any video/audio sync problems. -
I have written a tutorial for DV capture using Ulead MediaStudio Pro.
My tutorial begins on the Web page at the following link:

Hope this helps,
