  1. This is sort of a capturing, burning question for Tivo.

I have not even looked at a Tivo player but I assume if has capturing and burn capabilities within the unit.

Can it be used to capture, send to a computer for editing, and then be used as a burner? How about just as a burner from the computer?

    Just curious what people know.

  2. Check www.tivocommunity.com for useful forums on Tivo. The forums generally discourage discussion of video extraction. There is a new book called Hacking Tivo which includes a CD of useful software and info on video extraction.
Generally, Tivo units offer varying levels of capture resolution/quality. The DirecTV DVRs use Tivo technology but do not use the Tivo encoding chips since they allow the direct recording of the DirecTV digital signal, which is encrypted.
I use the Hollywood Bridge AV-DV converter (Canopus makes a better unit) to covert and import from my unit for really great quality.
Again, check the forums at Tivo Community for lots of good info on Tivo.
