I would like to try my hand at making some custom DVD covers. Since I am a complete newbie at this I have no clue how to do this and was wondering if anyone knew where I may find a step by step guide on how to do this. I do have Photoshop 7.0 but have never used it, someone told me I could use this software to make my own covers but I need a guide or tutorial. Your help and advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you.

Photoshop prob isnt the program to start with to be honest, its pretty compliacted and not for novices.
Id get a copy of Paint Shop Pro or something similar.
Making covers is easy. Go search around for some DVD cover templates n off you go.
DVD cover size is approx 275 x 184 mm if you are interested. -
Try these guides:

(' went to the Guides section, and selected Photoshop as the tool).

All youm need to do is buy a kit that contains your disc labels and software. Load the software and you can choose to either use their included photos as the label or add your own. It varies from one to the other, but basicaly all you do is open a picture of what you want, copy it and paste it in the area of the blank label. Once you fart around with it you will be able to learn how to customize your label even more. Use paint shop or any other proggy and cut something out of your pic that you dont want it it, or what i do is just color over the pic with the same background color and PRESTO, your particular image is gone and you're left with what you want.

well Im a newbie at this and I have got the dvd cover thing under control right off the bat...I go to cdcovers.cc and download the cover of my choice, and then I print that in XP photo printing wizard...and then go with 'full page fax print' and then I use really cheap photo paper as my paper. (the kind that is 50 sheets for $10) And I have had amazing results. Hope this helps . I have done about 20 like this and my friends that seen them are amazed!
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -
the cd label maker in XP Plus! is another wizard driven option if you have access to that add-in to XP

jaxxbox thank you for the reply. Your way sounds much simpler than photoshop. Do you recommend any particularly brand of kit and where to buy it? Thank you.

golfnut, i was using the TDK software and labels, but when i found cheaper labels ($10 for 100) I bought them. Turns out the labels were aligned differently than the tdk template. tdk had the labels in the center one over the other, but when i bought these memorex labels they were slightly skewed, off center. Anyway, i had to get another software and thought that I may still buy tdk labels again ot whatever was on sale. I ended up buying Click'N Design 3D. It has almost every template there is for whatever label you have. I open a pic, copy it, then move over to the label maker and paste it. Sometimes I'll edit the pic first, maybe cut out just the individual in it, copy that and then paste it so I have just the person on the label on the edge, and i can add other stuff on the other side. Also i add the DVD logo on it sometimes. You can do whatever you want really.

Before and after foto's. i dont like using all of one color on the label as it uses too much ink and tends to make the label damp. It does look spiffy though. -
IMO labels and DVD covers are a bad idea eventually they will warp and cause you problems. Just my 2cp
