  1. Hi all,

I just bought the Indiana Jones box and would like to back it up. Using DVDBackup I get a message saying it cannot decrypt "Video title Set 1".

I played it in DVDPlayer (and VLC also) before trying to back up. I played a few seconds of each chapter also but it still doesn't work.

    Any idea ?

    TIA

  2. I had the same problem with Indy (R2). OSEx worked better, although it gave an error at the end of the process but the extracted files were OK.

    are you in panther?
Did you let the dvd play for a while, ie skipping though chapters before using dvdbackup?
just wondering. lots of panther users are noticing that various title sets are just not backing up!

That particualr DVD set uses multiple encryption keys in different areas.

  6. I thought I read someone said to used OSEx and set the key refresh rate to VOBU. That will cause OSEx to look for decryption keys more agressively.

  7. Methinks there be too many hassles in Panther, ie, that's why I haven't switched yet...DVDBackup has problems, DTOX does, I've even heard of glitches in minor stuff like iTunes...not quite ready, but fun to play with on a different drive! Using DVDBackup and DTOX in jaguar, Indy backed up perfectly, although the extras disc took bloody ages in DTOX!!!

Yup, I am in Panther. And yes I played the dvd in DVD player (even in VLC) and each chapter a few seconds. All 3 dvds give the same result (I didn't try 4th one).

But as .rob suggested I tried OSEx and it worked flawlessly.

I don't think Panther is the culprit in problems with DvdBackup since I backed up several dvds without any glitch (Daredevil, Lara Croft, National security, Charlie's angels 2...).

Oh i think differently. I found several that just dont work with DVDBACKUP and neither with OSeX. Boot into 10.2 and they go without a hitch.

It doesnt really matter, its only say 0.01% of dvd's that dont work.

Wow, it must have taken you a while to try ripping 30,000 DVDs required to find several (arbitrarily set to 3) that didn't work, if .01% (that's a 0.0001 ratio) are affected. Color me impressed. Seriously, though, it's a problem that needs to be solved. As for the Indiana Jones DVDs, Temple of Doom has worked fine for me in Panther, with DVD Backup, DTOX and Toast.

I should have said that I am in region 2 - could that cause the difference ??

That could have something to do with it, since it was mastered differently than the R1 one I tried. DVDBackup does have issues with some DVD, and it seems OSEx, and even DVD Extractor for Classic MacOS must be used at times (thankfully I've never needed the latter yet, which is fortunate, since I have a dual G5 at home that can't boot into Classic MacOS to use DVD Extractor). MacOS X is desperately lacking in the GUI DVD extraction tool sector.
