Good Mpeg splitter for BIG files !!!

I am looking for a good utility that will be able to give menoew files of sections of my mpeg files.

I want to be able to cpature a complete video tape and then later trim it off, or break it into diff pieces...

I have tried a few of them and then seem OK for cutting smallish pieces.
It seems thoguh that once the piece I want to cut is over 2gb it does not work and either treis the create a file that is so big. or the time report for the new file is wrong.
I even changed my disk to NTFS thinking that may be it.

I would like something that is either free-ware or at least has a trial so I can ensure it does the job right.

(as long as we are at it what do people recommend for basic MPEG joining too)

I like Ulead Video Studio 7 (trial ware)for long captures, simple and complex editing, menus and burning.

I want to start with an mpeg and end with an mpeg of a smaller size.

For this toold not interesting in editing .. but cutting stripping etc.

What do you mean by "cutting and stripping"?
