I just noticed this! people are always jumping on other peoples back about this so I thought I post about it. whenever someone says "I just downloaded so and so movie from kazaa" the first things replied back are "NO WAREZ" or "THATS ILLEGAL". I just took the time to read this paragraph on the homepage for this site and it says this:

Can anyone find the subliminal message? well if you couldnt find it it clearly says "OR DOWNLOADED MOVIE CLIPS LIKE DIVX, MOV, RM, WMV, AND ASF."

thats why you see all of those threads were people ask for help about downloaded movies. and then there is that one guy that has to post first and say THATS WAREZ. anyways just thought I would post this info. Im bored by the way, can you tell?

Actually, you're not as bored as you think you are. I for one, believe you have a legitimate question. You see, you can download movies that are not only legal, but some companies make and post them to be downloaded and passed around, like movie trailers. There was even a car company that made some very good ones they wanted downloaded and distributed.

Then there is warez. They are stolen, illegal, and the site owner wants no part of them. We members like being members here, and know the quickest way to get a site shut down is to use it in illegal activities.

So we will continue to give advice on how to convert movies, even ones that have been downloaded, provided we have no reason to believe they are warez. Once we have reason to believe otherwize, we will either warn the offender, or give the moderator a "heads up", and let them handle it.

Like Tommyknocker said, some people(like tgpo) put their creations on the web voulantarily for people to download and enjoy. I think the important word would be "clips" not entire movies(does that make sense?).

Eh, yeah...that's a legit copy...

On the other hand, I DL tons of unlicensed anime. This is a real grey area, but haven't had any problem here. FWIW...I think it best to state that you DO own the original or somesuch. eg. "I need to back-up my copy of Tombraider." not, "Dude...yo...I just rented the dope copy of Tombraider...yo...how do I make my obvious warez copy of it." Stating the obvious most times will keep the 'warez nazi's' off your back.

OTOH...I understand Baldrick's liability when anyone mentions warez. This site can be shut down with the mention of warez...don't believe me? then you haven't been around long enough to see the vendictive hand of the RIAA or the MPAA. Would you rather have a site that cracks down on warez, or no site at all...

This site is about video... conversion.. playback...etc.

Just like in real life, keep your skeletons in the closet. Meaning your illegal activities.

I'm not aware of any real artists that use Kazaa as their distribution center. I sure wouldn't. They normally have sites and other less-scummy services. So yes, it IS a safe bet that most P2P-acquired content is illegal, same for newsgroups and IRC.
