  1. Hi

I have a 40 GB Seagate Hard Drive it was working fine untill i went to format after the format the computer dosent pick it up the bios dosent pick it up i have tried it on 2 pc's and none of them pick it or even read that there is a harddrive there.

    What could the problem be?

I have checked the cables and pins there all fine i have used new cable and still nothing the hard drive its self still powers up.

The seagate drive is a Barracuda ATA IV model ST340016A its over a year old now and i dont think there is any warranty left as the computer shop i got it from nolonger trading.

Could someone help me or do i have a heavy paper weight now.

  2. How did you format it, NTFS or FAT,16,32? How did you format the HD, Through windows (right click - format, if it's data storage) or FDISK for the OS. Did you try it slaved to another drive? Does the harddrive show up in BIOS if you change IDE's. Primary or secondary IDE-0/IDE-1 on the motherboard. You could try resetting your CMOS/BIOS settings and make it find everything again, sounds dumb but it works sometimes. Does it pass the POST test (1 beep). Does your computer boot up with another HD in it? Hmmm... Can't think of anything else.
