Oops....looks like I'm about to tick some people off. Might as well kill two birds with one stone....ready?

    RAP SUX

cRAP has a place in this world and has a right to exist....don't get me wrong but PLEASE don't call people who Rap musicians....because they are NOT. And please don't call them singers....cause they are NOT.
Even the term Rap Music to me is a bit of a stretch. 99% of the time it's not THEIR music you hear...it's either someone elses creation and they are talking over it or it's "I'll press this button and my computer will play my song for you". NOT MUSICIANS....COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS.

No offence, but if they are not musicians then start pressing YOUR computers button and become a star.

Its all subjective... why start and argument that has no solution. Might as well start a +R suck -R rules thread (or vice versa) if that your intent.

    Thanks for the opportunity......

That would make me a Star.....NOT A MUSICIAN.

  4. I think the whole letter replacement thing started way back in the day with phone phreaks - after a while everything spelled with an 'f' got spelled with a 'ph' and vice versa - after that other similar replacements started getting made, eventually becoming leet speak or whatever...

To go back to the "British slang" bit, pram does indeed mean baby carriage - it's short for perambulator! Nappy is "our" word for diaper...

    Wc - in the UK...

I would think it got started from people <black/white/hispanic, etc)butchering the English language, maybe being too lazy to enunciate right, or maybe just too dumb to learn while in school. Im not talking about typos, I'm talking about speaking and just not caring how they sound.
I'll not go any furhter hence I be accused of something.
I don't understand how you equate the way you enunciate a word with being lazy or dumb. Lots of people speak the way people around them speak. I don't say all my words correctly because I was taught to speak by people who didn't say them the correctly. Maybe segregation and the fact that it was illegal for some people to read played a role in how speech patterns developed over the years. People did have to speak all those years before any formal education was allowed. If you don't want to be accused of something maybe you should shy away from the "dumb & Lazy" labels that have historically been use to denigrate certain people.
There is also a huge difference between not pronouncing a word correctly and using the wrong/slang word.

I'm thinking the added 'z' instead of 's' is just trying to be cool. like boyz instead of boys and da or tha instead of the.

man, I don't even know if it's worth starting with your argument, since any example I make will probably get tagged "oh, well, that's not real music"... I guess if you like living with narrow definitions, have fun...

It IS true. LAZY people BUTCHER the English language. Take the time to speak "The Queens English" (yes we use that too in America). Not knowing a language AT ALL is one thing....but knowing full well what the proper way is and "playing cute" on purpose is just stupid and lazy....and mostly disrespectful.
I live in Germany and am TRYING to learn the language....and you better believe that what I have learned....I have learned with respect NOT to muck it up or make fun of it. I want to get this right....lazy people don't and simply don't care to.

Doesn't Outcast play their music? Black Eye Pea plays guitar, bass and drums.

You just can't simply say that ALL rap musicians don't play their own music, because it's not true. Well I guess you could say it, but you'd be lying.

Blues sucks. It's not music. They don't sing, they just mumble. All their songs sound the same, and they only use 3 chords on the guitar. It takes no talent to play blues music.

See, you can say crap like that about anything, not just rap music

    It's all personal prefrences.

no one said you weren't a musician, first off.

secondly, again, it's a matter of narrow definitions. what is a musical instrument? a turntable can be played musically. a piece of pipe can be a musical instrument. a block of sandpaper can produce music.

and what about singers? are they not musicians? they don't play an instrument.

"but their instrument is their voice"

so is a rappers. they may play thier instrument "badly" in your opinion, but they are still playing it.

I studied music theory for several years. Rap usually does have some musical theory involved, though it's not my favorite thing to listen to either.

But some rap, even like some heavy metal... is just people trying to sound good. And no, lots of fans doesn't mean they're good.

Creed sucks. But it's music and they have fans.

Actually it's 4 chord blues....but with the ability to add minor chords as add-ons(otherwise known as vamping to most musicians). Or as in most cases.....minor NOTES as add-ons....IE....the guitar solo(ist) like Gary Moore or Robben Ford.
3 Chord based music is notoriously COUNTRY music. 3 such chords chosen that do not leave you much possibility to add an extra minor chord or note sequence without a somewhat vivid imagination OR a huge amount of talent like Vince Gill.
As far as vocal ability goes....the best male singer alive today is John Farnham from Australia. He can sing anything. Pop, rock, ballads, screaming metal style rock and even dabbled in a bit of opera as a joke and blew his opera/show tune singing touring partner away.
All of the above people have TALENT. NO RAP STAR could ever touch the likes of a true musician (or vocalist) listed above.
Oh and I'm sure it was nothing but a typo on your part listing blues as "3 chord" based music instead of 4. Must have been some bullshiite you read on a new Rap Star's web page somewhere...where he or she was asked where they get such inspiration for their "unique and talented" style of TALKING.

man, first narrow definitions, and now absolutes.

this is like discussing comparative religion with a Southern Baptist fundamentalist... "we can discuss, as long as you recognize that I'm right."

is there a one true way to backup dvds as well? I might be doing it wrong if I don't follow your method.. or maybe mine just aren't "real" backups.

and you're using 4 chords? then you're not playing "real" blues.

I'm a tried and true Southern Baptist. I also know that life is too short to argue over everything.

    NO!!!

This thread is everything that bad...bad bad.

    1. Rap is music. Music I don't personally like but to say they are not musicians is pretty dang narrow. I'm sure someone once said just about every genre isn't musicians before.

    2. No -R +R, are you trying to kill me?

  30. I live to argue.

Hey but you know that it does take some creativity to be a rapper, or make catchy beats. Maybe the beat creation is just "computer programming", but that doesn't mean that it lacks creativity. Maybe you don't consider it music because it does use a melody.

    Merriam-Webster says music is
the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity
One beat of a drum is a tone. It is a set combination of frequencies that make a sound or tone.
Rap is art. Not art that I prefer but it is art.
