  1. I use MPEG2Cut to cut commercials from MPGs I download from my ReplayTV. I do this because encoded in the MPG is closed caption data, which I can extract and convert to subtitles. My problem is once I cut them, I join them with FileMerger, which then makes an MPG with incorrect timecodes. This is not loadable by any of the DVD creation programs I have. So I have to run it through TMPGEnc after which takes 2 hrs and 30 minutes, and puts over 15 minutes of the final frame on the last 15+ minutes of the new MPG. But I can't just cut out that last bit because the timecodes show something different in source range selection than is actually going to be there. So here's my question:

Is there any free or trialware tool that cuts and joins (or even just joins) MPGs together, WITHOUT a full re encode, that will correct the timecodes?

Restream will reset timecodes starting at a specified time.
However it only works on elementary streams so you have to
    demux and remux.

  3. That's ok, I demux them to put them in my DVD programs anyway. Thanks

  4. Restream is not fixing my problem. Even when I pick reset timestamps, and I zero out the first GOP timestamp, and even if I pick zero broken-link flags the stream is not loading in TMPGEnc or DVDMaestro. Is there another way to do this without re-encoding?

I just read the description of Filemerge. All it does is
concatenate files. This will produce an illegal mpeg2 file
    despite what they say.
If you don't want to buy anything , cut the commercials with TMPGenc
    cut & merge.
Or get Womble MPEG2VCR fast and frame accurate.

  6. TMPGEnc's cut and merge removes the closed captions from the file (but it IS fast. I guess I have decided to cut and merge (without TMPGEnc), GOP fix with Restream (because that does make the length appear correct) and then reencode with TMPGEnc. What's too bad is that even doing this is not free. Is there another way to reencode an MPEG2 that IS free? I don't mean Womble MPEG VCR, I mean something I don't have to even ask for. Something that has a direct download and is free.

  7. The old version 1.x of Mpeg2Cut has a lot of compatibility problems.

Try version 2 - Mpg2Cut2 - which resolves a number of issues from Version 1, and adds a number of new features.

Download the latest version of Mpg2Cut2 at
    http://www.geocities.com/rocketjet4/

If you are having problems with Version 1,
then give Version 2 a try.

For cutting VOBs, I recommend the following::
    - "menu - Output - Preamble - MAXIMUM"

    - Also use "PVAStrumento" from Offerynto fix timecodes..

  8. A couple of things about Mpg2cut2:

Downloading DLLs seperately is not cool (unless this is an option before download)

If the MPG is 352x480, it shows up correctly in the window, but some of the buttons are cut off on the right most side.

Otherwise, very nice work! Think about open sourcing it (if possible)?
