  1. I was finally able to get my video encoded to SVCD. The files I muxed with ffmpeg, "testsvcd.m2v.mpg-1.mpg", has audio, and i can p[lay it in QT. I went through the procedure using MMT to make the menu and to do the build to make the .img files. However, the SVCD plays with no audio on my DVD player. Any hints as what to check for to correct?

    thanks.

what app did you burn this svcd with?
often non standard svcd burns produce symptoms like you are describing.

    thats most likely the problem
only toast 6 burns svcd correctly (i have noticed)
use Missing Media burner or Firestarter FX which you can get off versiontracker.com until you update to toast 6

  5. I DL'd MMB but the readme says it wouldn't work with a Superdrive. Is this nonsense?

it doesnt work with "some" superdrives. Just open it up and give it a try. put a blank disk in and use it to get info, if you got the info and all showing up in terminal, then it will most likely work!

It sees both my superdrive and my combo drive!

  7. I can't think of anything more aggravating than this. I got the Toast 5.2 update, still no sound. tried MMB, and got this:

    IODVDServices: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104 Rev: A227
Using driver: Generic SCSI-3/MMC (raw writing) - Version 2.0 (options 0x0000)

    Starting write resid: 68
    at speed 8...
Pausing 10 seconds - hit CTRL-C to abort.
Process can be aborted with QUIT signal (usually CTRL-\).
    resid: 104
    Turning BURN-Proof on
    resid: 104
    Turning BURN-Proof on
    resid: 104
    Turning BURN-Proof on

    ERROR: Writing failed.

well right now it seems the only option is to get toast 6.
Toast 5's ability to burn svcd's is nill. Toast 6 is great, but it means upgrading which means $$ unfortunately

since you have a superdrive, have you considered just turning them to dvd?

To come up with a better solution, I would like to know your exact settings in ffmpegX and your terminal ouput. I don't think that this should be something we blame toast for yet.

Let me know your exact settings and I'll do what I can to get you up and running.

  10. I have always used Toast 5.2 to burn my (XS)VCDs and it has been OK.

Have you tried to author the SVCD with VCD Builder?

    http://homepage.mac.com/johan/

Have you inspected the file with tools like mpxtx.

  11. I can't use mpgtx, it doesn't work for me. The progress bar jsut spins and spins.

I didn't think vcd builder worked for svcd's. Should i try that?

When encoding using ffmpeg, I get

Encoding started on Tue Nov 11 19:28:48 EST 2003

Then I was able to mux it OK

foa, it looks like a PAL source being encoded into NTSC... Secondly, the audio is NOT being encoded.

How are you muxing this? and with what files?

  13. I'm not sure what format the original AVI was, anyways, wouldn't processing it reformat it to be svcd compatible?

For some reason ffmpeg never processes my audio simultaneouly, I have to do a separate encode.

I also converted this file with the QT mpeg2 encoder, but to do it first, I have to delete the sound track.

With ffmpeg, I coverted the audio to mp3 then to mp2 to mux using ffmpeg or MMT, I can't remember which.

But I was finally able to get a muxed .mpg in mp2 format where the sound played OK. However, I tried VCD builder, but it said that the format was incompatible.
