  1. I have just created my first backup of a movie - Signs, using Clone/Any DVD. However, I have a 4 questions. When selecting movie and extras etc size was 7GB which will obviously not fit onto a single 4.7 GB DVD.

    1. I was given the option to compress the files but the image quality was down to 52% (a 48% reduction in quality)at the yellow/red level. What sort of reduction in quality would I expect in reality terms, would it be noticeable?

    2. I chose to just backup the movie onto one disc choosing the copy DVD title option. Can I now add the special extra features such as 'making of' and 'deleted scenes' to another disc? If so how do I tell which ones these features are. I can see 21 tracks which I guess relate to the chapters?

    3. How do I get the soundtrack of a DVD onto a CD-R (I have a Bon Jovi DVD that I would like to put the music onto CD-R).

    4. Does DVD X Copy compress a DVD without a 48% reduction in quality?

    Thanks in advance!

    Greetings,

You may try to consider an other option.

I just backed up this DVD a couple days ago. I backup DVDs since a little while now. I tried many different tools (DVD2One, DVDxcopy express, DVDxcopy Platinum, Nero Recode, etc) and the best quality/trade off I found is : DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and IMGTools.

There are a lot of guides about how to use these FREE tools. With some trials and errors, I am not able to backup a DVD with about 5 minutes of real work and 1 hour and half computer work. And frankly, I was never sorry of the quality of the movie I backed up.

DVD Shrink gives you a great control of what you want to do. It is not perfect, there are some functionalities I would like to see, but it is a free software and no commercial software does what it does as good as it does it.

    Thank you

  3. Well first off if you have the latest CloneDVD (latest is 11/06) you can now output to DVD files on your hard drive so you should be able to see the quality you're going to get before you burn. I had CloneDVD do Lawrence of Arabia @ 51% quality (216 min. movie) and output it just now to a DVD folder (took 20mins) on my HD and then previewed it. I was surprise on how well it turned out. I only took about 20 mins to jump between the two and I'm still not sure I see any difference. So get the latest CloneDVD and output to DVD files and replay it on your PC DVD player and decide for yourself. On Signs its 106 min. movie LOA was 216 min. so I would guess just your movie should be more like 60% or greater. On CloneDVD when you use select "Copy DVD Titles" usually it just selects the movie then you might check "keep menues" and then when you select "Next" you should see optional stuff that it has left out that you can check (include). CloneDVD is suppose to be one of the easiest DVD copying programs to use so experiment a little. On the extras you left out can you put them on a 2nd DVD?....you might be able to uncheck the movie on the 2nd go round and check everything else or you might email CloneDVD on that one. The music I don't know. I would expect that other programs would have to compress just as much (48%) its a matter as to whether their compression scheme or transcoder process is better than CloneDVD's and more efficent (how long it takes).
