  1. I recently purchased a WINfast TV 2000 XP Deluxe Capture card.
I am having trouble recording sound. I am able to capture video just fine but can't record sound. I can monitor sound however; While I playback or record from my VCR into my PC, I can hear sound. I am a little unsure about my connections - allow me to explain.
First- I have a cheap VCR. It does not have an S-video out or composite out. It has the A/V RCA INS and OUTS. My guess is that a composite out is a combination of these? Can someone clarify?
Anyway- I connected to Video out (from VCR) into my WINFAST audio input and all is good (videowise). B/C the audio L/R out is separate I hooked from the Audio out of my VCR to the Audio in on the WINFAST card. Then from the Audio out on my WINfast card I connect a cable to the mic in on my Soundblaster Live soundcard. I have also tried the line in on my soundcard.
Just sure what to do??? I am obviously getting audio into my computer but the WINfast card will not capture it. In the WINfast config menu the card is set to capture audio and I have the outs ins/out set correctly?

    My system is:

    AMD XP 1600
    512 MB DDR RAM
    2 Maxtor 40 GB 7200 RPM drives
    WINfast capture card
    Gainward MX 200 video card
    Sounblaster Live

Any help would be greatly appreciated-

    Thanks-

The yellow RCA jack for video out on your VCR is called COMPOSITE VIDEO. There other type is S-video (or Y/C) and component (used mostly only by DVD players).

You should be using the LINE IN on your audio card not the MIC input.

Check the RECORDING LEVELS of your sound card. Generally this can be done by going to the CONTROL PANEL ... you might not have that set up properly. In fact this is probably the problem.

You might also want to try conecting the sound from the VCR directly to your soundcard LINE IN input instead of looping it through the capture card.

  3. Thanks for the info- unfortunately that did not work. I can only get audio thru when using the mic input. It still does not record though. If I try to line-in, I get nothing. I did try to plug the VCR audio out directly into my soundcard.

    Any other ideas-

    Thanks
