  1. I was using sonic mydvd with fair results to author DVD's. If I fed it DVD compliant captures it seem to only transcode the audio which didn't add but a few minutes or so to the burn. With my new DVD burner I am using ArcSoft. It seems to want to transcode anything I give it. I have also tried Nero Vision Express with the same results.

So I would like any recommendations as to a decent authoring tool that I can simply drop DVD compliant captures to with little or no re-encoding.

I use an ASUS A7N8X with an AMD 2400 and a AIT AIW Radeon 7500 and MMC 7.7.0

I'm very happy with TMPGEnc DVD Author. It will accept DVD compliant files and it will not re-encode. You can feed it MP2 or LPCM WAV or even AC-3 and it works fine. Very simple to use and stable program. I like it alot. Please note though that like most simple DVD authoring software it only allows one audio track per video and no subtitle files.

You can also try DVD-Lab which will also not re-encode but I think that the program is a bit buggy as I had some problems with it. The only real benefit to using DVD-Lab over TMPGEnc DVD Author is that DVD-Lab allows for greater control over the MENU design so you can get really fancy if you like.

Both have free fully featured 30 day trail periods before the LOCK UP on you and need to be registered (aka purchsed).

  3. Thanks, tried the demo and it worked great. No Audio or Video Trancoding. Built my DVD in less then 10 minutes. I also like the fact that it puts it out to a VIDEO_TS folder so I can preview my results before writing.

Will get my money back from the other guys and buy this product.
