I picked up one the other day at a Walmart in south Texas.
Excellent player:
- Hitting MENU,1,9 without disc gives access to region menu (Region 0 available)
- Plays MP3 from DVD or CD with long file names
- Plays MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 in RAW ISO from CD or DVD!
- Plays VCD/CVD/SVCD/xVCD/xSVCD/etc
- Plays PAL or NTSC
- Can play S/X/VCD with or without PBC
- Progressive scan (Y/Cr/Cb output)
- Digital audio out (but no optical)
...all for $43... not sure if there's anything it cannot do!
Not sure about Macrovision free. Not something I'd do anyway.
Only complaint is that it may make 1150k VCD MPEG-1 files slightly blocky, but haven't tested extensively. I think it was the test disc I grabbed was garbage quality (not mine). SVCD and xVCD looked great.
