  1. On just about any video not compressed with DivX 5, VirtuaDub can't play, seek, or convert. When I try to, I get this error message:
VideoSourceAVI error: The source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2)

This happens even if I try to run a MPG file.

If I run any AVI files through other player like Windows Media Player, I get an error "Classfactory cannot supply requested class"

If I check any AVI files and use the properties, it reports the video are using DVCodec. I am positive this wasn't the case before as most were downloaded from the internet. The DVCodec could be related to Panasonic DV codec I need for editing video from my DV camera.

What the heck is going on with my PC? A few weeks ago, I was able to play everything (Divx 3.11 to 5, XVid, Indio, MPG, etc) and now all I'm left that still works are the AVI with Divx 5 codec and ASF. If I were to guess, I think the codec registry got mixed up somehow and my PC can't match up the proper codec to AVI files anymore.

I really would like to get my PC back in working order soon, I wanted to get rid of backlog of VCDs to convert and burn.

When was the last time you did a system restore?
    Hello.

  3. A little over two month ago. It was actually a full format and install from ground up since the PC was new. I hope I don't have to reinstall already.

(My other PC, 1.4GHz and Win XP, has been going almost 2 years without the need for restore or reinstall at all, my personal record for *ANY* Windows OS.)

It is just that your problem seems so pervasive across all your systems, it seems to point at a system failure. Maybe you should perform a system restore, after, of course you try reinstalling your video application.

    I'm getting this problem too!

    Virtual Dub Error

The only program that I can get to play the files if they are broken is DivX, but because the header is messed up, I can't FF, RW or pause

I'm beginning to think that it's XP related - I never had this problem in 3 years of W2K usage....

  6. I went ahead and manually edited the registry and deleted the 2 reference I found on DVCodec and then removed the PDVCodec.dll from Windows folder. Rebooted the PC and prayed that I didn't [expleetive] up anything. Now my AVI works again but I still can't play MPEG.

Now that I thought about it, the last time I played any video without problem was before I installed DVCodec.

  9. PowerDVD here as well but I could never get it to work with my DVD burner, only with the older DVD-ROM. Are you suggesting that WinDVD or PowerDVD and Panasonic DVCodec could cause problem?

I think it's either the PanasonicDV codec or XP. I'm leaning towards the codec since even though I didn't have this problem with W2K, few others with XP have this problem.

I'm trying to remember what codec or version of VirtualDub allowed me to edit Canopus DV captures straight away without conversion between DV1 and DV2...... then I could go back to where I started.
