Is this possible to do because I have some killer floor speakers but they are 4 ohms not 8 ohms like my satellite speakers and I don't want to fry a new receiver.

You might want to take a look and ask a question here (in the "discuss" link at the top of the page)

Since your 4 ohm speakers will be a large load to a 8 ohm amplifier, it's probably not recommended to do this, keep in mind the impedance of the speaker is nominal , meaning it will change impedance and therefore the load on the amp depending on the frequency of the signal. The amplifier will see it as a lower resistance at the lower frequencies. Of course, you could hook up 4 ohm resistors in series with the speakers, but then you're just wasting the output power as heat and getting nothing in return, also a bad idea.
Sometimes you might not have a problem with using the lower impedance speakers with the 8 ohm amplifier, but a lot depends on the power supply. If it has enough current to handle the higher load, it might work. As long as it has overload protection, such as a relay that cuts out to protect the outputs, you wouldn't have to worry, just hook it up and try it. However, as I said, a lot depends on the design of the amplifier itself. Try looking for more information about your specific model on that website, if there is information about your unit.
