  1. I just picked up an OEM DVD burner by NEC. I am trying to use Nero 6 to burn with, but whenver I try to burn a DVD or a CD, it tells me that the "drive is in use by another application."

Any idea what I do to resolve this? Is there another program I can use? I uninstalled my old Nero 5 that was on the system before.

    Thx

  2. Do you have InstantCopy installed? I believe IC and Nero have conflicting or incompatible drivers (or something??)..

All i know is whenever i install Nero, I get a message by Pinnacle saying 'driver problems' with a prompt to 'fix'.. if i opt to fix, then Nero doesn't work.. When Nero is working, then IC doesn't work.. go figure..

Is there a fix for this, anyone??

  3. Nope, don't have instant copy installed.

  4. You know that the files you ripped are on your hard drive, so just to make sure we know what your system status is inorder to help diagnose the problem, have you done a re-boot and then immediatly started the burn process? If you have, and still error, I would start looking in your windows tray for something that may be running that would have access to your drive. This is all as starters.

I have ran into that problem with Nero 5. You might try turning off autoplay for your DVD drive and CD drive. Sometimes the OS assumes since you have a disk in the player you want to play it and it interupts Nero.

  6. Man, I still can't resolve this. The Nero 5 is what I used with my old Lite-On CD burner. I have taken it out, uninstalled Nero 5, several reboots. Yes, I already check to see if something was running in tray or background for that matter. I can't come up with anything.

Since this, I installed Movie Maker and it will burn a DVD no problem. But, I can't use Nero to burn data to a DVD or anything onto a CD.

Any other suggestions? I'm stumped. Oh, and I have uninstalled every program that might possibly deal with burning or working with a DVD and nothing has changed.

If maybe the last revision of NERO 5 that used to work fine
recognizes your drive go back to that..or at least go back to 5 to see if it still works on your system with the older drive (its still in the system I assume)

Then also check that nero 6 has been updated..Because 6 had serious problem (not the ones you describe) but was fixed with 6.01 or sutch

  8. I tried Nero 5, but it was only to run my CD Burner, and won't run with anything other than the CD Burner it was shipped with. I can use Movie Factory and DVD XCopy to make DVD's but I can't get an application to just move data onto DVD or use my new burner with CD's as well. This is getting me frustrated.
