any sony settop rumors of new models?

Has anyone heard any rumors of any new sony settop models coming out? I might be able to get a settop - I noticed that the list price of the sony dropped by $100, which for other hardware devices sometimes means a new model might be coming.

I'd be looking for a sony w/ variable recording time so am wondering whether it's worth the wait.

Yes, Sony will have new models coming out. The only thing that seems to be known about them is that they will have huge hard drives.

RDR-HX8 with 160GB hard drive
RDR-HX10 with 250GB hard drive

As to when these will be available, your guess is as good as mine.

that blu-ray recorder is cool if you have an extra $3800 laying around!

I guess I'll stay tuned & see when it's released - it would make sense that they would try to get it out in time for the holiday shopping season

nextlife1 - thanks ... good info. I love that babelfish machine translation - it gives me a kick:

slow playback with remote control of the knitting machine is possible, also compilation is possible easily.

but, considering that I can't read japanese, its much better than nothing. It doesn't look like there's a variable recording mode (e.g. bitrate selected based on exact length of program) but who knows (1) b/c I can't really read japanese and (2) bc the non-japanese models might be different...but this is pretty interesting.

their site says availability 11/21 but that's probably in Japan.
