  1. Hello,
Is it possible to backup my old DVD's by rippering the DVD, take the VOB, BUF, and IFO files, and just burn the ripped files with Nero under the DVD video option? Adding the files into the video folder of course... And, if the files are to big I could shrink them with one of the shrinking programs (DVD 9 to DVD 5).

Is this one way of doing a DVD backup?

    YES or NO?

DVD5's can be backed up with DVDDecryptor:

    1) Rip to ISO
    2) Burn ISO

DVD9's can be backed up wiht DVDShrink.

    1) Delete what you don't want
    2) Decide on Extras
    3) Deep Analysis if needed (large compression0
    4) Backup
5a) Burn with nero (you have vob/bup/ifo)
5b) Imag with IMg tools then burn the ISO

  5. I use DVD Decryptor to rip, then use DVD2one to take the movie without the subtitles and other languages, so it fits onto one dvd. Finally, burn with Nero. Hope it helps!

Any time I've tried *rippering* then burning, it didn't work. Even if the *rippered* movie is less than 4.3gb, I've always had to run it thru DVD2One or DVD Shrink to get the files into the correct form for compatibility with Nero. Only takes ten minutes and takes all the guesswork out as to which files to burn.

can DVDXCopy dvds be re-copied also? I've heard yes and no, but what is the answer?

  13. yes, why not unless your backups offer greater copy protection than the originals maybe hollywood should back up their masters with XCopy and release them for sale instead that way we can't re-copy them
sorry, could not help it...it's FRIDAY

  16. You don't need to buy any programs like DVD X Copy and the others. I did but I didn't like them since 1) It cost money 2) Split DVD-9 to two DVD-R discs. I suggest you read the review at www.MakeMeKing.com/howtodvd.html to see the easiest way to burn. This way allows you to backup your personal dvds onto just one DVD-R no matter if it's a DVD-9 or DVD-5. Also, it is one of the most complete guides I've seen. Happy burning
    Funny site at www.MakeMeKing.com haha

according to your guide you DO need to buy a program. last time i checked DVD2One (trial ver notwithstanding) costs $$. maybe you should be advocating DVDShrink instead.

This method is better than others because it's faster, you don't have to split it on two DVD+/-R(W)'s, and don't have to buy any software.

All the software I talk about is free....

    3. Nero 5.5 ....
    4. DVD2One (Demo Available by clicking here) or some people get the full version on Kazaa or WinMX etc...
    1. This site (dvdrhelp) is full of very good guides.

    2. The only free software in your guide is DVD Decrypter
DVD2one and Nero are not free.

Sorry buddy but this stuff wont make you king...
