  1. Has anyone ever seen MPEG2 video stored as .MOD files...a friend has the new Panasonic sv-av100 camera (no tape, SD memory)...it stores mpeg2 as .mod files...we cannot find any software to edit, burn to disc, or convert to vob file...OEM software is useless...2 calls to Panasonic also useless...thank you for any help.

  2. I had the same problem, but as a workaround you can save the files to disc and then simply rename, changing the extension from .MOD to .MPG. The files will then be recognized in other editing software and most of the media players.

i recently got one of the same cameras (panasonic sv-av100) and wanted to know what you found the best way to burn videos from it...

i tried burning a vcd with Roxio, but when it re-encodes the mpeg2 files, it adds in all these compression artifacts that don't exist in the original mpeg file. any hints on best format to store these, preferably in a manner that is playable on stand-alone dvd players?

    Don't use roxio!

You must tell us more about the file format, use avicodec to check the video file properties.

The file format is mpeg2, although it's a weird extension (that's easy to change).
    AVIcodec says:

    File : 29 MB (0.0 B), duration: 0:00:00, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 80 %
    Video : 0.0 B, 2700 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 352*480 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
    Audio : 0.0 B, 256 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

I'm wanting something that will use the files without having to re-encode them. This might be a stupid question, but i'm pretty new to a lot of this.
    thanks!

  6. I'm new to all this also -- if not Roxio, then what do you recommend for DVD authoring?

Also, changing the extention from MOD to MPG only works (at least for me) after installing Stinkey's Codec found at: http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat...11-2-2-40.shtml

After you install the Codec you don't even have to rename the files if you associate MOD with Windows Media Player (AFTER installing the Codec)

    To do that:

Windows Explorer > Tools > File Types > New > Type in "MOD" > Change (under "opens with" > Select Program from List > Windows Media Player
