The svcd that I am making contains a few large files. the first being about 500mb mpeg2 at 720*480 this is the part that get pausey If I forward the video till I get to the other files which are 480*320 no problem.

Is the resolution too high for an svcd and is that why i get the poor un watchable video at the start?
