  1. Having a music DVD which will not play anymore (disk scratched near centre- wont even load on standalone player or PC ) the only software that will open is DVD decrypter, seems to capture all but the last few mins of the DVD.
Problem is the VOB files it created come to 5 gig so wont burn direct to DVD , DVD shrink and DVD2ONE will not open the files so i can compress them says something about not complete. TMPGEnc also wont open them.

Any help will be most appreciated.

Try stream processing. Watch for corrupt files (read errors). Remove those files and re-author the DVD(you should have Audio and Video files when you start). You should come out with the same DVD minus the corrupted files.

  3. Thanks......tried that but it just gets to 97% and keeps coming up with "uncorrectable error" option of ignore just brings up another "uncorrectable error" only other option was cancel.. been doing this now for 1 hour and still on 97%.

You are pretty much dead in the water then. That scratch has f---ed you.

Sorry to hear that. I had this happen to a CD of mine. Rare and OUT OF PRINT. A real bummer!

Get a microscope and transcribe the bits to a piece of paper.

Seriously, If you have some valid VOBs you could simply re-author
them to a new DVD. TMPGenc Author, DVDLab , MF2 , and the list goes on

Then if it's too big , Shrink will fix it because it's now a valid DVD.

  6. Well I managed to get all VOBs 1 - 6 and 75% of VOB 7 from DVD Decrypter, used TMPGEnc author on VOBS 1-7 all went well.

Started up DVD shrink and get error message " cannot decrypt VOBS - error unknown" used TMPGEnc author again but same thing.

Any ideas how to get around this?

    John

    Update ........
used DVD2ONE to get a working backup (well 95%ish) but dont have any option to change to DTS audio or have full chapters.
Could these be part of the DVD that could not be backed up?

Try Smartripper,it can sometimes rip disks that DVD Decrypter cannot. If you have a DVD-R recoder try ripping with that,it's slower rip speed,2x,can also help in ripping difficult disks.

  8. Id suggest using Smartripper and choose ripping by chapter n choose all the chapters except the last 1 or 2...with a bit of luck youll have your dvd minus the last 5 or 10 mins or so.

I get that error if I use DVD shrink Beta 5 on files made with Tmpgenc DVD author. The solution is to run the files through DVD Shrink 2.3 with no compression and then run those files through DVD Shrink Beta 5 to compress.

Or you can just use DVD shrink 2.3 to do the compression. I just like to use the Deep Analysis in Beta 5 so I do it that way.

  10. Smartripper couldn't get any more info than DVD Decrypt.
DVD Shrink 2.3 came up with a "file doesn't exist" error

Got all but 1 song on the dvd which is ok, but cannot access the DTS option....I'm just getting 2 channel...and no original chapters

Longest I've spent on scratched media was 11 hours. Tell DVDDecryptor to re-try reads at 3 and ignore errors. I had 424 errors, and it looked bad when viewing, but I did get enought to backup.

FOO POSTED the answer for you but all ignored it

stop potchkying(?) around with the disc and get to work

If you used TMPGEnc DVD author and all went well then you have a folder with all the ifo, bup, and vob files. That is the file you need to use DVD shrink on.

Did you really point DVDshrink at a folder created by Tmpgenc DVD author that contained all the correct files but DVDshrink said there were files missing?

    forgive the previous post

I have had some limited success submitting the .IFO 's to IFO EDIT
in the case of a DVD shrink input error.. Just resaving them can sometimes fix this as its a subtle problem whose nature excapes me

Have you looked at repairing the disk? There are some kits that can fix minor scratches and some stores have a service that can do it as well for about $2-3 per disk.
    Hello.

  17. Thanks for replys...

I did say I had most of DVD now backed up, just 1 song missing and it aint that special.

The problem was no DTS audio option and no original chapters but with IFO EDIT downloaded I can see the DTS is in there, just gonna be some headscratching to get it as an option methinks!

No chance of repairing original DVD....it's bad...I got kids

    Update....
Deleted all but VOBS files then created new set of Ifo files with Ifoedit...worked a treat...have now got a complete (less 1 song) back up of original DVD including DTS and original chapters.....Cheers
