Okay, I am trying to use VirtualDub to do my capturing because it seems to have the best quality captures so far. My problem is this: I have several differnt 30min shows on one tape and the first 5 went absoulutely wonderful, but I'm trying to capture #6, but the video keeps stoping and starting like it's on a 2 or 3 second pause and then it picks up where the audio is. Why is this happening? How can I make it stop? All help is appreciated!

Well it sounds like you are running out of computer resources. 600 mhz and 128 meg of ram are a minimum system.
But you might try - Turn off any AV sw. Disable any other background tasks. Make sure that the HD is de-fragged. Use Task manager(processes) to see if there any hidden tasks executing. Make sure that DMA is active for you HD. Add 128 meg of ram.
Drop the resoultion (bitrate) on the captures.
I use a 600 Mhz 256meg laptop to capture with USB 2.0 and have done all the above and I dont drop frames. -
Thanks for the reply! I bet my problem has to do w/ other programs running! Yesterday I had everything shut off except VirutalDub and stuff was fine. I'll try and see what happens now!
