  1. Hey Guys,

iŽll would like to know :
Has anyone tested the FW 2.23 for the DD0201 with the Optorite DD0203 ?
Is the Problem with -R fixed ?
What do you think, Optorite / Accesstek / Sanyo made for all the Burner
new Firmware, but no one for the DD0203 ? Will they forget the user
of the DD0203 because they have made newer drives like the DD0201
or the newest 8x Burner ?

After searching here and in other forum iŽm not sure if the
Optorite/MSI/IISonic is a really good DVD-Burner. What do you
think. Would you buy this drive again ?
In Germany the first sell there Drive for 99,-€...

    Thx

  2. I strongly believe that the success with using Optorite DD0203 as well as any other DVD burner depends on hardware and software configurations of the system where the burner is installed. I saw many topics with complaints about any brand and type of DVD burners (including Optorite) that you can find on the market today. Some people have problems with their burners that others don't. I would even suspect some incompatibility issues of DVD burners with motherboard chipsets, type of RAM, conflicts with video and sound software drivers, etc. simply because I have seen many topics where people have a DVD burner causing all sorts of problems even after warranty exchange, and other people have absolutely no problems with the same burner (same firmware revision) whatsoever.

I personally have no problems with Optorite DD0203 at all (knock on wood). I have never had any problems with Optorite such as: "you have to burn the DVD in multi-session mode (Nero) in order to get the DVD recognized by other DVD players" (absolute nonsense), or "DVD-R burned on Optorite will not play on any stand-alone player or PC DVD-ROM drive" or "the same with DVD+R" or etc., etc... I only had problems when after burning a DVD video on Optorite the disk would have poor playback on DVD player (but still recognizable), and the problem was fixed after discovering that it was caused by cheap media, faster than recommended burning speed and sometimes applying labels on DVD.

I would recommend Optorite to others because I found it as good and reliable drive. However, I find that the question "Would you buy it again?" does not sound right. I personally would not buy this drive again simply because I never buy same thing twice (just by my nature), including cars, digital cameras, and DVD burners as well as would not go on vacation to same destination twice...

  3. I agree with Tig here. I've had no problems with the Optorite 0203 at all. I've had no issue with DVD-R (or DVD+R). It seems like a reliable burner.
The three media I've used worked fine:
    Verbatim 2x DVD-R
    That's 4x DVD+R(came with drive)
Princo 2x DVD-R (Bought before I found this site but still worked)

The MyDVD and Arcsoft ShowBiz DVD that came with it didn't impress me. But, DVD Shrink and Nero 6 work fine. I'm still trying to find some capture software I really like (NeoDVD works fine, but not much control over it). Those are software issues.

Yes, I would recommend this drive to someone else.

I had problems burning DVD-Rs wit this drive. The disks burn fine but they don't play in some players.
    I'd stick with Pioneer A06.

  5. I have had good success with this drive. I have been using Memorex +R4x media without any problem. It plays well on my pioneer dvd player. I also played dvds on apex and norcent and they work fine. One of the dvds didnt play on cyberhome player. But i am yet to figure out why it didnt play on that particular player.
The drive works just fine and i would recommend to others as well.

I've had really bad luck with this drive myself. I'm one of the ones that it makes DVDs that nothing will read unless I use mutisession and don't finalize them though too. If that were fixed I'd LOVE this drive though.

I got a 50 pack of -R2x and haven't had a problem yet. They play fine on my Apex 500 and Apex 2500. The same disk won't play in my friend's Phillip"s or my brother's sony DVD player. This leads me to believe that the DVD player has alot to do with the playback.

  8. I had the optorite drive and it was nothing but problems from the start, all of the disks i burnt had a problem playing in normal dvd-roms as well as set top dvd players. The DVD+Rs seems to be not affected but the DVD-R disks were a nightmare.

I eventually sold my drive on ebay and used half the money to buy a pioneer A03- its definately slower at 2X but all the disks i burn work fine and besides im waitng for those new 8X drives to come out then im going to go for a trusted brand like pioneer, plextor or panasonic

While all that is true, it is also true that Optorite has acknowledged a problem with DVD-R media. Some don't experience the problem and some do. Those that do have a problem often don't have a problem with DVD+R, which indicates that it is a burner issue in those cases.

It's been over a month since Optorite said they would release a firmware fix. It looks like they are having difficulty coming up with a fix.

  10. If the 0201 firmware was meant to work with 0203 why wouldn't they post it for both drives?
