Does anyone know if there are any particularly good video file (AVI/MPG etc.) compressors out there?

I have some videos I want to keep on CD but I want to keep them in their original AVI format (no re-encoding). Their size means that storing them this way is going to be a little inefficient unless I can gain about 10% compression on their current size.

I've tried the usual ZIP, RAR & ACE options with compression set to absolute maximum, but they can't get down to what I need. Are there any other lossless compression utilities out there that are maybe specifically targeted at being optimized for video files only that can do better?

I think re-encoding is probably the only way.....

  3. Yor AVI files are probably divx (or some variant like xvid) and so are already heavily compressed so they won't compress much further without data loss.

Depending on their size, you may be able to burn them to CD using mode2. This allows up to 800Mb on an 80min CD and is the mode used by (S)VCD. Make several copies though as this removes all the error protection/correction found in the more common mode1.
