  1. I have authored my own DVD. I would like to know how some commercial DVD's lock out the FF/Menu buttons during the commercial previews? This is not a feature offered with my authoring software. I figure it must be a single bit somewhere I can flip to enable/disable buttons during a chapter playback? Do I use vobedit? If I know that Chapter 14, for example, is a preview segment, where would this bit be located?

It think the only program that could do this post authoring would be IFOEdit.

Load the relevant IFO and then up at the top click on VTS_PGCITI. More than likely there will be more than one item, so hit the + button to expand it. Find the PGC or menu item you want to edit. Near the top you will see a section titled, Prohibited User Operations adn then a series of "operation" following that. Double click on any of these and put a check mark next to any function you want to lock out. If you want to prevent FF then check forward scan. Of course after that just make sure to hit save.

Other than that, find authoring software that supports UOP's. (user operations prohobitions.)

  3. UOPS = teh suck!

Nowadays you can buy players that specifically ignore all IFO and VOB embedded UOPS. I hate them, personally

From an author's perspective they work, but from a users perspective =
