  1. Hi all. I have been quite happily converting from XVID to DVD for some time and then authoring using TMPGEnc DVD Author and burning to DVD. It's all been going well until recently!

I have two movies (two files each) and join them using VirtualDub. I then use my template as normal in TMPGEnc and encode to DVD. However TMPGEnc crashes randomly and bombs out.

I have tried converting separately (i.e. each file on it's own) but still have the same problem. I have checked for bad frames and tried to remove them but the VirtualDub I have does not create a list of the bad frames - it only tells me it has some.

I have tried VirtualDub MP3 Freeze and this crashes randomly as well.

The video files play back fine so it is quite annoying!

    Any ideas?

  2. Have you tried any of the video fixers in the tools section?

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools#VideoRepair/Fix

I'm not sure if DivFix can repair xVid's - maybe, as they're similar codecs AFAIK.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

P.S. they'll playback fine because players tend to be much more tolerant of errors than encoders can be.

  3. Hi there. I have tried a couple but not all of them. Is there any particular one you recommend? The other thing is I am not 100% sure it is a file problem. Maybe a problem with the Environmental settings in TMPGEnc? Cheers!

  4. I would try DivFix - I've not tried any of the payware/trialware ones.

  6. Hi there. Could you do me a favour and post your environmental settings so that I know they are working ones please?

P.S. Apparently there is nothing wrong with the avi file itself!

    Cheers all!

  8. Hi there. I have tried changing the environmental settings but it still crashes. Do you have any other ideas on what it could be? or what I could try to stop it doing this? I don't understand why these two films are causing me trouble when I have had no problems with any other XVIDS before! Apparently I have all the right codecs installed according to AVIcodec!

    What else can I try?

    Thnaks all!

  9. Hi all I read a post about using FourCC to change the movie to a DIVX rather than XVID. I did this and it seems to have worked. It's 93% thro encoding so fingers crossed it should be ok! I only download DVD rips and usually have no problems with anything so it is a strange one! Thanks for all your help!
