  1. I live in the USA and have burned DVD's which play fine on my standalone player. I want to send them to relatives in the UK. My question is whether or not I need to create versions that are specifically Pal versions for use on the UK or will the version I have created (presumably NTSC) work there.

If I do need to create Pal versions I'm not really sure how to do that. I have Pinnacle Studio 8 and there is no obvious option to burn Pal vs. NTSC versions.

  2. If he has a good DVD player. The DVD player should change NTSC to PAL you should not have to do any thing. Just make the DVD region free infoedit or DVDshrink. If he has a PS2 or Xbox as a dvd play they might not change ntsc to PAl but 95 percent of all DVD player will change NTSC to PAL: and PAL back to NTSC. Computer can play NTSC and PAL also.

Best thing to do if he does not have a DVD player that will change NTSC to PAL is to get a new one. The back up;s will be better then encoding NTSC to pal.

  3. AFAIK, all DVD players in the UK will handle NTSC material. The real questions you need to ask are:-

    1) Will the DVD player in question play my flavour of DVDr (+ or -).
    2) Will the TV to be used with the DVD player handle NTSC signals or PAL-60 which some players use with NTSC material.

If you can get the make/model of the DVD players to be used you can possibly answer question 1 with this sites DVD players list. Question 2 is more difficult.

  4. Thanks for the replies, since its most likely to work, I think I'll just send it and tell them to let me know if it has a problem. I used DVD-RW media which I understand may be more compatible than the DVD+ type media, although they have a brand new DVD player which should probably be able to use any media. My Sony cannot play DVD+RW but does play DVD-RW, it's a couple of years old.
