  1. I have successfully used Pinnacles' Studio 8 to burn several DVD's but it is frought with bugs. To avoid using the burn disk part of Studio I understood that you can actually burn the files straight to the DVD using some other software.

I have tried this using Roxio Drag & Drop, creating the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders with the required files. However the same movie which burns correctly from Studio and plays in my standalone Sony player will not play in that player when I burn it using Roxio D&D. Is there some other formatting that needs to be done to achieve the same result that Studio can produce. I am using DVD-RW in each case.

    OHHH, don't use Roxio

I use S8 to make the img file on my HD then I burn with DVD Decrypter.

In case you don't know, DVD Decrypter is free software used for ripping and copying DVD's. It has a burn function.

Use S8 and create the files on your HD, if you can make an ISO or img file with S8 then great. (I only use S8 for capture, I edit a little in S8 but I mainly use Adobe Premiere to edit and I author my DVD's with either Ulead DVD Workshop or some other Authoring software (but not Ulead Movie Factory)).

Open DVD Decrypter and select - mode>ISO>write - then browse your hard drive for the ISO or IMG file and then burn it.

It has been my experience with DVD video especially you really need a software that is DVD specific, or at least a major aim of the program. Nero is the only exception and as far as I know the only major burning software that handles normal file and mp3 burning and also DVD burning with the same consistency.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

However S8 creates a VIDEO_TS folder containing VOB, BUP and IFO files. Not one file with an image. I've not heard of the ISO and IMG files you are referring to in the S* system. Can DVD Decryptor make sue of the VOB, BUP and IFO for burning the DVD. These are after all the files that are actually seen on a regular DVD.

Make a folder for you movie.

In that folder make a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.

Put your files in the VIDEO_TS folder.

Use IMG Tools to make an ISO of your movie folder.

Burn the ISO with whatever you want.

Works every time. You can use DAEMON Tools to mount the ISO image to verify menus/extras work.

I use NERO 6.0.19 to burn because the newest DVDDecrypter makes coasters for me if I do Anything durnign the burn. Nero will let me encode, read email, surf, wtch a video while burning.
