One word...details. What files are you trying to burn? Keep in mind, only mpg2 files will work as dvd's.

  4. be careful what you're saying about the file you're trying to convert - read the forum rules:

    Do NOT give warez.

Do NOT link to warez .

    Do NOT ask for warez.

Do NOT provide information how to obtain warez.

    Do NOT advocate warez.

Warez includes pirate/bootleg movies(movies that are not yet released on DVD or VHS).
Try loading your file into gSpot - that will give you information about the avi file you have; specifically what codec was used to encode the video and audio, and whether you have these codecs installed on your system.

Does the file play in Windows Media Player etc..?

The results you get by just chucking a file at nero and asking it to burn it as a DVD for you will not be good. As has been said a gazillion times on these forums, Nero is good burning app, but a crappy encoder.

You really should re-encode the file to MPEG-2 with something like TMPGEnc plus, or Cinema Craft Encoder, and then author as a DVD before using Nero to burn.

Look at the guides to the left for more info on this stuff.

However, I suspect the file will be a fairly bad source (low quality), so it might not make much difference. If this is the case, think about converting it to VCD instead.

As has also been said a gazillion times, garbage in = garbage out... or to put it another way, you can't polish a turd.

  7. @RabidDog - I suppose it depends how recently the turd was released :P

marychat - TMPGEnc is very easy to use, particularly with the Wizards etc..

The trial version of does MPEG-2 encoding (which you need for SVCD/DVD) for a month before the trial runs out.

It has unlimited MPEG-1 encoding though - which is all you need for VCD.

The upgrade to TMPGEnc plus (unlimited MPEG-2 encoding) is not very expensive considering how good it is - if you're going to get into making your own DVD's, it's a good investment.

There are loads of guides on using TMPGEnc on this site.

It was 'released' Yesterday, and he has an AVI.

Anyway, what's happening is Nero is trying to convert it to DVD video. Fine, Nero can do that. It's the PCM Audio that's messing it up. Even at 90 minutes it's too big for a DVDR. Get the Nero AC5.1 plugin and it may fit.

Go read the guides. Search for AVI2DVD and AVI to DVD. The subject has been done to death. Your not trying to do anything new, it's all covered, including links. Also checkout DVD2SVCD, you can fiddle with it to get DVD video as well, and it works from AVI's or DVD's.
