Ok well first of all I just insalled XP on my new system. I have an AMD 2600+ with 512 DDR400 PC3200 RAM and a Shuttle motherboard with the Nvidia nforce chipset.
Everything is fresh I installed the K lite codec pack like on my old system, which worked fine. I am trying to convert an AVI to DVD mp2 Now with the same config I get the "Read error occured at..." error. I have adjusted the Direct show plug in to be the number one priority like advised in another guide, and I have also tried many other things advised in guides.
The problem is not with the file either, I have tried to convert a file that I converted sussesfully on my old system and I get the same error. No matter with the file is I get the error. Please some one offer me some advise.
P.S. I have also tried rebooting, reinstalling, and all that crap there is some other problem. Thanks

Hmm I am also trying to find the root cause of this problem. I get the same read error, there's nothing wrong with the file, pretty much the same symptons as you are describing.
I posted a possible wordaround to this problem (it works for me at least) here:

I don't know how much this can help you but I will continue trying to find the root cause. -

To hell with Nimo. Uninstall Nimo (especilly ffdshow... that piece of garbage has been the source of all my problems!) Run your file through GSpot or AVICodec. See what codecs you need and download them individually. Install those and then try running through TMPGenc. If it works, good. If it only encodes part way, try running through DivFix or scan the file in VDub for bad frames and cut them out. If that's not doing anythin again, in crease driectshow prioroty to 2. Sometimes when you have enough coddecs on the sytem you have to boost the priority of some of thes filters to 2, 3 or even 4! Try it and come back if it don't work!
