  1. Hello,

I was wondering does it effect the quality of the cds if I put the cds flat or vertical? Cos for example with glass that used in windows, if it put vertical over a certain period of time the top will be thinner than under.
I have many burned cds in jewel cases and I notice there's slightly some changes in the shape of the jewel cases if I put it flat or vertical.
Maybe this could happen to the cds too?

It really doesn't matter but if you put them flat instead of vertical it is a good idea not to put any weight on them. I have some vertical and some flat but the ones that are flat are in a CD RACK HOLDER that has a little notch for each CD so even though there are 25 per row they are really not one on top of the other. You wouldn't want to stack them one on top of the other so that the bottom one has all the weight of those above it.

  3. BTW, glass flows so slowly that the apparently described effect (e.g., in windows from medieval period churches) is actually an urban myth. Those windows were actually designed that way.

As to you jewel cases, they are probably warping from some other reasons.

Your CDs are fine. They will be damaged from something else LONG before the effect you are describing will have any effect (and if I'm not mistaken, this does not occur with polycarbonate).

How did they design and produce glass that is thinner at the top of the pane than at the bottom all those years ago?

I know because of something called "education"...

YOU aren't old enough to possibly see this effect first hand either. In fact, NO glass window is old enough to show this effect.
