Firstly let me apologize if this thread is going to cross a number of areas.

What I have done is edited 12 home movies using Premier and Authored them onto a DVD (in Pal format). I want to send this DVD to Family in the US, but I know there Sony DVD player only supports NTSC. What I wanted to know is if there is a simple way of converting the DVD to NTSC?

I know I can just output each movie in Premier as NTSC, but that would then require re-authoring. Is there a simple solution?

    Thanks
    Amelia

you will have to re-author no mater what -- so better to re-render as ntsc

    Thanks BJ,

I am sending the DVD in PAL format and they can work it out there. I guess their options are to play on PC or find a cheap DVD player that will convert to NTSC.

    Cheers

Man editing 18 home movies with Premier and authoring with DVD Maestro was one VERY time consuming job

When they come out with the program DVDPAL2NTSC I convert it for them

    Cheers

well it would have been easy to convert -- the chances of them having a player to convert -- almost nil ..

I actually got a reply back from Sony (USA) and they said none of their DVD players support PAL

Looks like my only option is going to be out the Edited DV projects as NTSC and then re-Author. I may get around to it one day.

    Cheers

Well the Wireless connection is only to my home network, so I can't actually surf live . . . sorry I can, but it would cost MEGA bucks. All I do is download the pages I want to look at.

PDA's have dropped in price heaps, but Trains still cost a lot

  12. not the option you were looking for, put they (NTSC folks) can purchase a number of the apex model dvd players which will "play" pal dvd's. I would recommend (I have played pal on these players) the apex 1100w, 1110, 1225. There are many others I am sure.

Also, to clarify, these players will play the pal video (I say this because someone will get on here and talk about that TV's and or dvd players will not do a conversion. I have watched PAL movies on mine and they look just fine.

Thank you Macleod and thanks for mentioning the Model numbers. I am going to send the DVD as is and recommend they get there hands on one of the DVD players you mentioned. I figure even if I convert this DVD for them I wont be doing the same for future home movies.

I've still got 3 MiniDV tapes to edit and put on DVD. I would rather be doing that then convert a completed one to Pal.

    Best Regards

Well if they are going to get a stand alone DVD player that does PAL to NTSC conversion then they might as well forget APEX models which are utter crap and get the best one that there is (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg).

That would be the CYBERHOME CH-DVD 500

They can order it direct from the CYBERHOME WEBSITE for $79.95 USD + shipping.

Not only is this one of the best (if not the best) PAL to NTSC DVD player but it also is easy on the pocket book.

If they want more information on this DVD player (or if you want to look it up yourself) there is a CYBERHOME forum on the NERD-OUT WEBSITE in the message forums.
