I capture video from my Sony Dig 8 Camcorder thru firewire for editing. Using my camcorder for a VCR wears it out (frequent cleaning/head alignment). Does anyone know of a reasonably priced Digital 8 Player (Sony makes one for $700! that evidiently does more than just play - hell, I can buy two Dig 8 Camcorders for that price.)

And thats all there is. Investigated this already. Sony is the only maker. Basically, it is just the camera without a lens. So you are right not worth it.
I found that it is cheaper to buy say, a trv340 (gives you ability to digitze analog) and use it soley as a Digital 8 deck. Sucks doesn't it ?
