I would like to know from the experts out there if there are changes I can make that would improve speed times on my system. Right now it takes about 45 minutes to rip and backup the average DVD movie using the described process below. I have also listed my equipment and how it is connected for your reference. Any help would be most appreciated.
Process:
I am using 2 software programs, CloneDVD and AnyDVD which allow me to backup directly from original movie disc to blank DVD+R disc "on the fly". I simply place the orginal movie disc in my Pioneer DVD Rom and the blank disc in the Plextor PX708. As I stated this usually takes about 45 minutes from beginning to end using a 4X blank disc(Ritek GO4).
Equipment:
DVD Rom - Pioneer 105
Connected as "Master" on Secondary IDE
Internal Interface - ATAPI 3
Region Code 1
Region Control - RPC-2
Firmware - Microsoft Version 1.22
DMA Enabled
DVD Writer - Plextor PX708
Connected as "Slave" on Secondary IDE
Internal Interface - ATAPI 2
Region Code 1
Region Control - RPC-2
Firmware Version - 1.03
DMA Enabled
I suspicion that my Pioneer DVD Rom may not be reading as fast as it should and may be slowing down the writer. Any way to check the read rate or maximize the Pioneer's read rate? Thanks to everyone for your help.

I can virtually guarantee that your Pioneer DVDROM is ripping at 2x only. It's a Pioneer after all, and they are notorius for the 2x lock.
However, that would limit your rip to 30 minutes for a DVD5....and maybe 45 minutes for a DVD9? Sounds about right with your listed times. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Gazorgan, thanks for the reply. Is there a way to unlock the Pioneer or is there a different DVD Rom that would improve speed that you may recommend. Thanks again for your help.

I think the 166 is the most highly recommended at the moment.
