  1. Ive made some older questions regarding the collaboration between pc and mac regarding the DVD video burning so heres is what i did. Mostly refering to galactica, WiseWeasel, and the other helpfull guys!

I use DVDlab on the PC to author a DVD. From there i move the compiled VIDEO and AUDIO TS folder to Toast 5.01 (on MACos 9.2.2) and burn it as DVD on a DVD-RW (i write it there so i can test, dvdr's are still kinda expensive). Then i insert the written DVDRW then to my mac but despite AppleDVD player opens by itself it cannot play anything. Also another thing i saw was that the icon of the written dvdrw says UDF, what is that? Also id like to say that on the PC when i opened the vob files and tested the compiled dvd it has no problems all seems to be workin fine! What can be wrong, might it be the type of dvdrw????? Im going bananas over this!!!!

first of all, is there any chance you can get OSX on this mac.
Also, what type of mac is it, what video card does it have, and have you ever played a dvd (commercial or -r) on it successfully?

Also another thing i saw was that the icon of the written dvdrw says UDF, what is that?
thats just the format that the disk is written it. it just confirms indeed you did burn a dvd.

thats why im saying get osx on there. there is an app called VIDEO LAN for OSX that will also play dvd's and i want to see what happens when you play the dvdrw in this as opposed to apple dvd player.

also, any errors when dvd player attempts? or is it just a black screen? also, did you push play? i know its simple but sometimes its just the dumbest things that cause problems.

  3. 1st. no i cannot get OSX the administrator will kill me

2nd. its a G4 933, with superdrive and 9.2.2 OS, i think the card is a GF4mx, and yes i have played a commercial dvd and -r on apple dvd player

3rd. well as far as it concerns the apple dvd player it acts as if theres no dvd in, i press play but it will just not work

4th. the dvd-rw wont even play on my pc, acts like its not there

5th. ididnt mention that before opening toast when i inserted the blanc dvdrw i got the message that the disk isnt formatted n stuff, and should i eject or format it, i didnt do any formatting, i just ejected it opened toast, draged there the VIDEO and AUDIO TS folders, selected that its a dvd to burn, presed record and just pushed in the tray! and then the burning strated, thats about it.

is there anyway like i said that the dvd-rw isnt copatible to be played on the superdrive?
ive heard of diff types of dvds, like -r, +r, +rw, -rw, -ram

thanx for the help but im still puzzled, hope u can helpme once more.....MASTER!!!

well you can FORGET about +r/+rw on that mac. just throw that idea away now. Other brands, maybe
Can you take a screen shot of your dvd when its open and in LIST mode, with all the folders opened, ie the arrows so i can see whats in the dvd and how its arranged.

if you cant do that, it should look like this......

If its not like this, then you have it burned in the wrong manner (still burned as a dvd-udf, but not with the correct structure.

make sure when you are burning to follow step 3 of my dvd copying guide

    Step 3. BURNING WITH TOAST

    1. The Easiest way to do this is to create a folder with the name of the dvd, make sure that it is in all capitol letters and _ for spaces. Example TWO_WEEKS_NOTICE
    2. Next move your DVD2One created VIDEO_TS folder into this folder
    3. Now create a new folder and rename it AUDIO_TS, and also place it into the folder which has the DVD name.** (such that your DVD named folder has two folder in it, 1 = AUDIO_TS, 2 = VIDEO_TS
    4. Next Launch the Toast Titanium Program and select the DVD option under the other tab
    5. Now drag your DVD named folder containing the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders into the Toast window.** Check the folder contents in toast using the arrows to open each folder.** Look particularly for files such as .DS_STORE which is a OSX invisible file.* If present, use TOAST’S clear function to remove that file.
    6. If done properly Toast should have created a new DVD bearing the name of the main folder you had and containing the video and audio folders.

    Which will appear like this

    DVD_NAME* (Example TWO_WEEKS_NOTICE)
    ----AUDIO_TS
    ----VIDEO_TS
--------VIDEO_TS.IFO….(and all the others, .BUP, .VOB….).

and on the mac, it will mount this dvd??????

such that you can click on the desktop icon and open the dvd folder and see what you have burned?

if so, im afraid im out of solutions, other than to say your dvd authoring isnt working ie its making the files but not authoring them properly.

can you also put this dvdrw into a standalone player? Does it play?

if so, im inclined to say that mac doesnt support -rw disks.

  7. Well the DVD-RW seems to be working for data just fine, as far as it concerns DVDvideo im not sure yet.

On my pc, my DVD-ROM drive wont recognize this burned DVD-RW disk.
While on the MAC i know its burned, cause of the UDF word on the DVD-RW icon!!

How can i find out if superdrive doesnt burn correcly DVD-RW's? Can it be a matter of compatibility?

Now as far as it concerns if my dvd app (DVDLAB) compiles the dvds correctly, i think it does because i managed to play the compiled files corectly it on my PC. PowerDVD plays the the dvd ive authored just fine!!

    Regards

Ive talked with some of my higher power buddies

Since your under 700 megs as this dvd, just burn it to a cdr but still use the dvd udf setting, as you have always been doing in toast.
this will create a non rewritable miniDVD disk for you to test this mac on.

this may and probably wont work in a dvd player (standalone), but should have no problems with playing on your mac or pc.

this way we can determine if its the rewritable nature of the disk thats stopping it from working on the mac.

    make since?

  9. unfortunatelly it did not work as i tried, although i have to mention that the dvd stuff were burned on a second session in the cdrom, does that matter? also something else that puzzles me is that i put the dvdrw on a titanium 1ghz, with mac osx 10.2 and it played like a charm!!!! i cannot figure out how and why, the dvd just autorunned and opened the dvd player (didnt have the mind at the time to ask which player that was) and then went into the dvds interface. i was amazed...really!!!
now what explanation can i get on this???

the explanation is that mac has OSX.
so with that said, it IS burning it properly, its just that particular mac doesnt seem to play your dvdrw burned disks.

so in the end have we determined that though they dont play on that mac, they do burn properly?
if so then whats the case now???

  11. Theres another thing, why dont the PC at home see the dvdrw? I have a Hitachi GD75500 DVDrom, winXP Sp1a, might there be an incompatibility between my dvdrom and the dvdrw disks?
And also how can i get the DVDrw to work myMAC that uses classic OS 9.2.2? can it be the apple dvd player? or even maybe the superdrives firmware?? any ideas how i can fix the problem?

It could be the simple fact that the dvdrom drive may not be able to read -rw disks. not familiar with that drive, just try doing google.com search on it and see if someone has specs on that drive.

if it mounts, and you can read the contents of the disk, its not the drive. it could be the fact that OS9 and that version of dvd player wont play a dvdrw
to be honest, i got into dvd stuff WAY after tossing os9. its been YEARS since ive used it
