Has anyone had any success running the latest LiteOn LDW-411S DVD Writer from a Promise Ultra133 Controller under Windows XP Home Edition? I've tried this as master-slave-cable select-primary channel-secondary channel and in each case the drive is recognized by the BIOS during bootup but XP starts to load and then hangs. This makes me think it's a hardware driver problem. As soon as I disconnect the data cable from the drive and reboot, everything loads fine. Any suggestions?

have you got the latest promise drivers from your motherboard manufacturer

I spoke to tech support at LiteOn and they confirmed that there is a known compatibility problem with Promise controllers and their LDW-411S DVD Writer . Swapping the DVD Writer with the DVD-ROM which was running off the motherboard IDE controller partially fixed the problem. Now XP boots, the DVD Writer is recognized, but the DVD-ROM now running off the Promise Controller freezes up. Thanks for the tip on the controller drivers. I'll check that out.
