  1. At first I tried NERO but that caused the last part of the movie to skip and such. I then tried CDRWIN 5, it just didn't burn i got some errors and now i can't even use ti properly.

Perhaps i just need to reinstall CDRWIN, anyways would someone recomend me a good program to burn the VCD. And if possible a place to DL it.

    ~thanks

I don't think the skipping is caused by the burning program. Try burning at a lower speed (8x or so) or try some different disks.

    Does CDRWin do VCD's?

    Anyway, I use VCDEAsy too.

  4. What is the ASPI thingy in VCD easy? Just out of curiousity, becasue the only thing in the box seems to be NERO.

But thanks, i was thinking about VCDeasy but i kinda wanted to ask about what others were using.

    Yeah, Im new to this...

Note that burning (writing the data to a CD) can be done by just about any application worth the name of "CD burning application". Just keep in mind not to burn at max speed - I regularly use 4x, 8x when in a hurry.
Before burning, (but after "creating suitable mpeg") there's authoring to be done. When it comes to (S)VCD, there's nothing that beats VCDEasy.
If VCDEasy doesn't like your ASPI layer, try ForceASPI drivers, or just let VCDEasy create the (S)VCD image (uncheck the Burn checkbox) and then use Nero (or whataver works on your system) to burn the image.

The 'burning slow' is the CDR equivalent of Princo's.

I burn at 24x/48x and never and a VCD or SVCD issue. Of course I use real 48x(or 24's, depends what was on sale) disks, and check every 3rd or 4th disk for errors. Quality Media and a quality drive mean you can burn at whatever speed you want.

No Q checks, and burn at 4x (but admitedly with a quality writer) allows me to use any crap media that happens to be the cheapest at the moment. Each one to his/her own.

I don't understand the "burn slow" either.

I burn everything at the max the burner will do with a given disk.

    All turn out fine.

Why did we bother buying 52X CD burners if all we want to do is burn at 4 or 8 X to make sure we get an"error free" disk.

if the damn thing won't burn at rated speed, either the disk or the burner, take it back.

I am pissed right now that I bought a Hi-val 52 that burns 40X rated AT&T branded ddisks, that my Lite-On 48 will burn at 48X, at a max of 24X..

Piece of crap if you ask me.

    Cheers,

    George

  11. Some older DVD players in particularly have difficulty reading CD-R discs, and subtle things such as changing the burn speed (usually DOWN but not necessarily) can affect its readability.

Also, each burner / media combination usually has a particular speed where you get the best quality burn (insofar as the minimum amout of C1 and C2 errors ... or "jitter").

This is rarely the maximum supported burn speed. The last time I read an article that tested one of the Yamaha drives (the one that could do that Tattoo trick on the unburned sections of CD-R discs), the best speed was around 8x for that particular drive.

Since S/VCDs don't contain any ECC like CD-ROMs, perhaps burning at a lower burn speed (e.g., 8x) isn't such a bad idea. If you have good quality media, however, the max burn speed is usually just fine.

I can burn at full nominal speed alright - it's just that if I do so, the chances that my stand alone will play it thru without hiccups are severely reduced.
I always write data discs at max writer/medium rating without problem.

"Do what you gotta do" to make it work. What is so hard about that? People with 52x write burners KILL ME. Every time it drops below 52x they start to bitch....
You should be lucky this technology exists at all at ANY burn speed. Would you rather go back to the days of vinyl, 8 tracks, reel to reel and 8mm video with NO SOUND?

    Think hard now....no takers?

:P I think we should stop this hijacking, and let the topic get back on track: "What's the best app for burning (or more to the point authoring) a VCD?"

Encode to mpeg1 with tmpge and burn with nero. Simple, fool proof and fairly quick with a fast cpu. Case closed.

    Simple
Yes - even easier would be to just dump the AVI on Nero...
    fool proof

  17. if that's so fool proof then why isn't it working for me? I still get the same error, and whenever i use vcdeasy, the picture it totally messed up, and the sound keeps playing these low pitch beeps.

I use nero 6.3.0.0 and i create my SVCD with DVD2Svcd then burn them in nero just drag and drop. I burn at 4x and i have problems on some movies with sync errors and video errors. I dont know if it is caused by DVD2SVCD or Nero but im going to download a trail copy of VCDEasy and see if that makes a differance.
