  1. My Philips DVD 711 player won't play any of my homemade VCD's. I burned them with Nero 5.0.3.5. It seems to work fine for everyone else, why not for me? Please help. I'm not even sure if I'm doing any of this right, I'm completely new to this. Oh, and I used TMPGEnc to convert any files that we're not already mpg's. The player recognizes that it has a VCD in it and how many tracks it has, but won't play ANY track.

The Philips DVD711 is a little finicky about its vcd playing. The only real templates I've found that work really well is the vcd(ntsc).mcf that comes with tmpgenc and sevcd template. Well and the audio template I just created, but its based off of sevcd template so go fig.
also you'll have to encode any mpegs that don't meet the vcd standard to the vcd standard. If you are using nero burn, for your first try, just use the standard vcd(ntsc), template to encode the files and leave the compliancy on when you add files to nero burn. if a file says it isn't compliant, re-encode it with tmpgenc and the vcd template. also, I turned off the pbc feature on the philips dvd-711 player, under the setup up on the pulldown menu. At least for me, with the pbc on it just makes playing vcd discs annoying. I hope I covered it. E-mail me if you need anymore help. I own a dvd-711 so I might be able to assist, I've created a few homemade vcds and had my share of screw ups.
