  1. Hello! I have an original VCD and trying to make a copy for my sister to keep. I want the copied CDR-VCD it to be able to play on my DVD player (Philips 840>according to the DVD compatability list, it should be able to play VCD). The original is playable on the DVD player.

    Experimented CDRs:
    1. I've tried using various speed to burn but still no good.
    2. I'm using nero ultra to make copies.
    3. I've tried switching between NTSC and PAL too.

I borrowed my friend's VCD player and it works but the subtitles is stretched to the bottom of the screen. Unlike the original, the subtitles should be about an inch away from the bottom of the screen. The VCD itself is PAL format.

    Questions:
    1. What can I do to make is playable on my philips dvd player?
    2. Any other burning software I should use?
    3. Brand recommendations for CDRs?

Other info is greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping me out....

If you're doing a straight disk-to-disk copy then it should not change the VCD at all. Are you letting nero re-encode? Are you using the VCD setting in nero? You shouldn't. Just do a disk copy and it should work fine.

Download a program called VCD GEAR.

    http://www.vcdgear.com/download.html

It is easy to use. Use that program to extract the VCD FILES to convert to MPEG files. Make new folder and name it whatever you want and save the MPEGS in there. After the conversion to MPEG you may use NERO burn to encode and burn the vcd to a cdr. I would suggest using VCD EASY to encode and burn. VCD EASY is no longer a free program. If you can find a older version that would be fine. I use the old 1.4 version.

The limitations of free limited version of VCD EASY are:
You can save projects but not reload them.
No more than 5 MPEG picture/audio files and 2 MPEG video files (instead of up to 1980 MPEG picture/audio files and 98 Video Max).
No files bigger than 400 MB.
No "Execute an (S)VCD XML file" in the tools.
No "Burn a CUE or TOC CD Image" in the tools.
All MPEG Stills have 'www.vcdeasy.org' as watermark
The batch mode of the MPEG Stills creation has some nag screens.
Project files and MPEG analyzes cache files are not in the clear.

I use VCD GEAR to convert my VCD mpeg files then use VCD EASY to burn on a CDR. I found going vcd disc to disc in nero does not work on some stand alone dvd players even though it supposed to be vcd compatible. Hope this answers your questions about making a VCD TO VCD.

ZippyP is right, just do a straight cd to cd copy,no need to extract with vcd gear and reburn as a vcd

I had the same problem of the subtitles being scretched out when I did a vcd disc to disc burning using NERO. They would not play correctly. I use the VCD GEAR and VCD EASY programs and all the vcds I make play fine on not only my DVD PLAYERS but on my friends one's as well. I use MEMOREX CD-R's.

Just from my own experience anyway.

I use CloneCD to copy SVCD's....and my normal Roxio CD Copy to copy VCD's. I'm guessing since my version of Roxio Easy CD Creator only makes VCD...it won't even copy SVCD...not sure why. And always copy them as a DATA disc....works every time for me.

  8. Thank you all for your advices....

The reason why I don't use CDClone is because there are actually 6 DAT files but I only want the last DAT file (the rest are commercials).

Hmm... just thought.... if I copy ALL the VCD folders into my pc, then delete the 5 DAT files (left with the actual movie) and burn it as a data cd, would it work???

Anyway, I'll download VCDEasy and VCDGear now and try it... Will update you guys... A million thanks for helping me out....

  10. Thank you all... I finally got it to work with my Philips DVD.....

    BUT

It doesn't work on my panasonic portable vcd player....

Is there anyway to allow PAL AND NTSC format on the same VCD?

P/S: Budz... Thanks... I got your message....

  11. Ok guys.... I need your advice again please...

Refering to my last post... I could get the movie to be played on my Philips DVD using a CD-RW and not a CD-R

I just found out that the Movie won't play on my DVD when I bought a new brand of CD-R (Memory). I've used Pioneer, Pengo, Brandless "Silver" CD-R, and TDK but none of it seems to work. I've also tried using Nero and VCDEASY to burn, but no success....

Would it be a problem to my CD-RW????

    Jodi

CD-RW are more "compatible" than CD-R, so this could be a problem with your stand-alone...
