Hello, I am new to the movie / DVD thing, but not to computers. I just bought a Zenith DVB312 DVD player - which is supposed to run Windows media. I have several mpgs and avi's I would like to watch on these DVD player. I have tried to use NERO/ROXIO to record them as SVCD and the player does not work, I used the hack listed on the forums and it does not make a difference. I am a little confused by all the DVD programs and burner software. Could someone point me in the right direction? Is it possible to put these MPGS and AVIs on a CD-R (or DVD-R) in some sort of format for this player to read them?

    Thanks in advance.

I dont quite know where you went wrong? Maybe you could list the procedure you went through?

To play a cd-r on your standalond, the file needs to be in mpg1 format. If any of your files arent, you have to encode using something like tmpgenc(great software) before you burn. If your files are already in the format required, simply go to nero and use the vcd or svcd template and burn away. Now it should play in your player...

Thanks for your reply. I have the files in MPG, I am not sure of the version, I will try the tempgnc to see if it makes a difference. I got all sorts of programs - NeoDVD, Flask, DVDit, Intervideo WinDVD creator - I just don't know what to use. I would like to just use my CD-R and skip the DVD burner, if my player can read the CD-R with the mpeg on it, converted I guess.

According to this ...the cdr-rw should play fine on your standalone. Keep in mind, mpg1 for cd-r, mpg2 for dvd.
