Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -
He's right. Succint, but right.
AMD's numbering system claims parity with numbers like 2200XP as the equivalent of a 2.2 Intel, 2400XP, a 2.4 Intel.
Your 1.5 AMD is what, a 1700, 1600? My 2000 is 1667, supposedly equal to a 2 gig P4.
Even when you do get parity in these numbers, one will outdo the other in various tasks, AMD will be faster here, Intel will be faster there.
If you are buying a new MoBo/CPU, consider the benchmarks, whichever does your gig faster is which you should buy.
If you are into Adobe Photoshop, and the AMD wins buy it. If Intel wins, buy IT. Don't get one or the other because it does something you are not going to use it for faster.
tomshardware.com did some video rendering benchmarks. Try there if video is your main reason for building a new machine, or simply replacing your MoBo/CPU.

Yeah, video rendering and encoding is what I plan to do. My AMD Athlon XP 1800+ at 1.5GHz PCMark2002 benchmark scores:
CPU = 4568
MEM = 2812 -
Are you limiting your choices to only those two CPUz? If that is the case for the tasks that you are planning for, I'd (unfortunately) suggest the Intel CPU.
If it were between those two specific CPUz ONLY.
Now if you are planning on building an new machine (you will need an AMD mobo for your Athlon, or a P4 board for that Intel chip), I would suggest a second option: buy an Athlon XP 2800.
on pricewatch.com you can pick up the 2.2Ghz Intel for around $134.
the AMD XP 2800+ (actual speed 2.08Ghz) is roughly $129.
Looking at the price comparison of these two chips then I would recommend the AMD. You almost always get more bang for the buck with an AMD chip than you do with any Intel.
tomshardware.com has some decent cpu benchmarks for various types of uses (including audio encoding as well as video encoding with selected software). This can give you a good idea of how each chip performs relative to others.
Here is a link to their super CPU roundup, which includes both of the processors you were looking at as well as the one I suggested.

Hope this helps.... -
Of course I may have misinterpreted the initial question, thinking it was a buying decision.
that toms link is still good to show relative performance of a wide variety of cpuz, it could still be useful to you.
sorry for the confusion. -
Thanks for the very helpful link. According to tomshardware video encoding benchmark, my AMD 1800+ scored better than the P4 2.2. I don't need to upgrade after all. But I was thinking about it because Dell had a P4 2.2 for $200 shipped w everything minus monitor and printer. It was a sweet deal.
