*How do I read what the Field order is on a DIVX avi*

Hello,

I have a good Divx avi

I would like a program which will let me see what the frames are not the frame rate but whether,

they are Progressive

and also to see the field order (top field or bottom field) etc

Birate viewer normally lets you see this with other video streams but not with DIVX.


how can i see this information????

so i can set up my encoder correctly to mpeg2 dvd etc.

any help on this one appreciated

1) O.K so what is the source of the frames within Divx????

2) What would be the set field order for Divx (top or bottom)

3) How am I able to detect this information or what program could list it for me.

Just a little update,

I have converted my Divx avi using Main Concept encoder (love this little baby)


Without knowing any details of the orginal film source as such took a chance and got anyway with it.

The only thing that caught me out was the aspect ratio which was on 4.3

The source DIXV was actually 16.9

so I had to encode it again.


The question again for me is how can I find out this information contained within the DIXV so that I may set up my encoder correctly.

DIVX does not support interlacing.

Therefore Divx is progressive.

Therefore no field order to set.

If the source is progressive, encode to a progressive mpeg.

G-SPOT is good. its worth always testing a small five minute sample before doing a complete encode, as it helps to spot those annyoing bugs.

Any idea's on the aspect ratio's of DIVX would they all tend to be in 16.9 format???

Or better still is there any way I could check this before I encode can't just guess it everytime 2 to 1 odds of 16.9 or 4.3.........''

I got Biatch slapped last week by someone pointing out that DivX 5.(1) does support interlacing. I don't see the point since PC's hate interlacing, but I suspect it's for settop support. Never tried it since , again, there's no point for a PC.

Don't confuse the AVI's resolution with it's aspect ratio. ESPECIALLY with AVI's. Most AVI's are 4:3 (NTSC or PAL). The resolution may be about anything, but the aspect ratio is 4:3 . Even the 640x360's are 4:3. The simplest way is a 30 second test encode of some full screen people. 2 minutes will save you hours of encoding. The problem is you have to view it on a TV, or with WinDVD or PowerDVD to deal with the interlacing and get the aspect ratio correct. Remember, TV Pixels are rectangles and PC pixels are square.

It's hard to tell what you have with public domain AVI's (it can't be a copyrighted AVI, now can it?). Quite a few are mis-encoded.
