I have looked on these forums and all over the internet and have found nothing that addresses my specific problem.
I want to add subtitles and/or closed captions to an existing working process of making a DVD from my TV in Windows. My process works like this:
1) I get an NTSC MPG rip from my ReplayTV (a Digital Video Recorder like TiVo, but IMO better). This MPG holds Closed Caption information (for future reference).
2) I edit out the commercials with Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE DVD.
3) Repeat 1 and 2 as needed
4) I make menus on this and any other edited videos with Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2, and output the folder. (I am quite happy with the menus this program creates and if I have to use a new tool I would like one that at least meets the ability to make menus this way or better, I don't HAVE to pay for it, and is not too crippled if it is trialware).
5) I then use IfoEdit to add DVD-Text and I use TMPGEnc to add Jacket Pictures to the folder output.
6) Now I burn with ImgTool Burn.
So this entire process works. Now I want to add subtitles and/or closed captions. I already have a working process for getting the subtitles easily. This is it:
1) I rip the closed captions using SCC_TOOLS' SCC_RIP and CCASDI (-s for subtitles) (although this is a long process for the CPU, at least I know it can be done and I don't have to type out the subtitles).
2) I then sync the subtitles to my edited MPG, with necessary edits, using Subtitle Workshop (so I can already save in many subtitle formats). From here if necessary I can convert to Closed Caption files if I want that.
Now I want to add my subtitles in, but it seems I have to do something very complicated to do this, by demuxing my VIDEO_TS and then remuxing it with subtitles. But I don't want to have to do this. So here's my question:
Is there somewhere in my process I can add subtitles and/or closed captions BEFORE making my folder (even if it means using a different tool)?
*Please also note I cannot use the latest ReelDVD, I have WinXP Home Edition, and I also cannot pay for any tool. Trialware/shareware MAY be acceptable as long as it is not too crippling in its free use.
If there is NOT a way to do that, then is there an EASIER way to add subtitles somewhere else in my process, before I burn it to DVD?
Even if you know of no other way to do it than with demuxing and IfoEdit remuxing I would appreciate a reply.

To the best of my knowledge the only authoring programs that can mux subtitles are: DVD Maestro, Sonic Scenarist, Adobe Encore, Reel DVD and IFOedit.
Since you say you have no money, IFOEdit is your ONLY choice.
There's really no way save re-authroing (ie. re-muxing) to get those subtitles in.
