  1. Here is a fun link to have a similar MacOS X dock working on a WindowsXP machine. I've used it for 1+ years and it is my standard app/folder launcher. I even launch a few URLs from this dock.

Needs WindowsXP and CPU 1 Ghz or better.

So far the best navigation I found is a MacOS X dock that works for WindowsXP such as Objectdock, Y's Dock, or Mobydock. There are many PNG icons that can be placed on these docks and you can create your own from any picture at 128x128 pixel size. I have about 94 icons in the dock to folders, direct launch apps, URLs, System Preferences. It is not exactly 100% copy of MacOS X but it is 98% in looks and 95% in function. With some icon making abilities like Axialis Icon Maker and Photoshop, Icon Gear you can translate MacOS X icons to WindowsXP for these Windows docks. The only drawback is that in most cases you need to quit the dock while playing games since it may decrease either the rate of play or the resolution of the game, other than that they are worth it of use. They are very stable since they've been around for over 1 yr.

Here is in order of popularity:

    Free Docks !!!

    1. Y's dock available here at http://www.aqua-soft.org Forum by e-mailing any member.

    Or better yet download here:

    2. Objectdock:

    3. Mobydock (needs Dx9):

All the docks have icon magnification as the picture shows. You can change all the icons to other PNG icons. There's over 500 icons out there mostly as good as MacOS X in quality. You can also use Windows ICO format but because most ICO icons are made up to 64x64 pixels they will not look good at the 128x128 magnification. Longhorn is rumored to abandon ICO format in favor of PNG like the MacOS X. Icon Links are usually drag n drop or via a Options Panel. All are very easy to use.

This is a picture of WindowsXP that has been modified to look like MacOS X. The browser is not IE but Savanna. It uses a skin to change the style of the top navigation bar. The bottom MacOS X dock is probably Objectdock but the others Y's dock and Mobydock can look very much the same

Here are some Visual Style Skins that are MacOS X like from ThmesXP.com ( http://www.themexp.org/ ) :

What exactly will this let me do? If it is just a different set of graphics themes, it isn't of any real value is it? I keep my desktop running in the most basic format I can find. I have no need for 32 bit icons, and moving decorations, those just take up resources. So unless it will let me actually run in a unix environment, or at least simulate the actions needed to operate a Mac, thanks but no thanks.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

    I think this is AWESOME!
it shows that windows users actually dig the GUI of OSX

now if you could only emulate expose

pretty cool though, looks just like my comptuer does natively!

  5. Expose has also been emulated on WindowsXP. Can't remember the site if I find it I'll post it.

SO I take it that this is nothing more than another desktop theme. Thanks for the answer.

  8. Well, I installed Y's Dock and a few other applications for customising my system. It's much nicer now.

Thanks for the link, VideoMann. It's nice when someone takes the time to recommend something useful like that
