What is the best cature software to use?

after doing some more research I'll refraze my question.

What capture software and generic drivers work well with
a BT8x8 chipset based pci tv tuner card?

For capturing directly to DVD mpg2 compliant video?

  3. I like VirtualVCR...not sure if it works with your capture card or not. It's free anyway.

  6. I have to say AVI_IO, mainly because it drops much less frames than VirtualDub. I found this out only recently when VDub wouldn't stop dropping frames no matter what I tried...

For analogue capture, the best program is virtualdub.
But, this program doesn't have wdm support, so you need to use a vfm2wdm wrapper to make it work on win2k/XP. This ain't always easy and sometimes, not even possible!
On those not so rare cases, your second try is virtualVCR. But even here, you may have audio / video lipsynch problems, also this program prefers w2k that winXP if your hardware is some months (years) old.
There is also freeVCR, an old program, never worked for me. It is like virtualVCR, on some specific hardware gives less issues. For the rest, it gives only trouble...
When everything else fails, you try iuVCR. It is not freeware but it real cheap. It is an amazing program: If the hardware is there, this program can make it work.
I never had luck with Avi_Io, some users suggest it, mostly older ATI ones I believe.

For mpeg 2 realtime capture, you have 2 solutions: Software and Hardware.
Hardware cards are now plenty in the market. Do a search to the Captrue Cards section of vcdhelp.com
The Software solutions, are not so many. There are 2 dominant solutions: WinDVR 3 and PowerVCR. Some like the first one, some the last one.
